Curtains or ....?

We currently live in a top floor flat so I conceded to DH's dislike of curtains and we don't have any. There aren't any curtain rails anyway. It's only an issue in one room as we're not overlooked on the other two sides.
We are soon moving to a first floor flat where the bedrooms and one bathroom will all face another property. There's the option to have curtain rails inset into the ceiling - I think it's necessary, DH doesn't.

What do you have? What are good alternatives? We have external shutters but I'm thinking more light net curtains so during the day we have light but no one can see in. But curtains will cause arguments...

We a mix of roller blinds, roman blinds and plantation shutters. The latter look lovely but they block out natural light unless open (as in fully open).

I have vertical blinds, twisted slightly to the side no one can see in but you get light through. They look neat and tidy. Net curtains are aging and need washing.
I don't have anything in the bathroom as have frosted glass and don't much care if neighbours can see a fleshy outline at night they can't actually see anything else.

I also have curtains which are important for keeping heat in (or out in summer) even if not essential for keeping light out.
