We are old. Our house is old. Our furniture is old; various shades of brown wood. After many years, Our bedroom is being redecorated and I have chosen Dulux Heritage Beige Biscuit for walls, white elsewhere. There is no going back; man with rollers is working as I type. The carpet is forest green. I have a tapestry that will go above the bedhead. I know there must be curtain fabric somewhere that will make all these elements come together. Please help me find it.

Do you care to tell the story of that tapestry? Not seen anything like it (not that I’m some tapestry aficionado!)

Depending how maximalist you’re feeling, this place has some incredible printed velvets at £12.50 a half metre.

I’ve ordered dressmaking fabric from them online but you can visit their shop in Dewsbury, which sounds like it’s on the right side of the Pennines for you

@Offcom it was made by Rosel, probably late last century. I can't remember if that is a German or Austrian company. There is only one place for the bed in this room, which I have slept in for over 36 years. Changing from an Edwardian 4-ft with a tall bedhead to a much more comfortable modem 5ft divan left a big blank space above the bed. I prowledthe Internet for days, and saw the tapestry offered for sale on Marketplace - very near where we went every week to look after a DGD. She was in a child seat when we collected it. Now she has almost finished Primary... The castle in the tapestry reminds ne of Salzburg, and the boat of the Rhine. I have not discovered any story to the pix. Still checking out fabrics for curtains... feeling maximalist. Thanks for your help and interest.

For anyone interested: I have just placed a £200 Black Friday order with Terry's for sufficient William Morris Persian Tapestry in the 'natural' colourway, blackout lining and header tape to make a pair of full length curtains. I may look for someone to do the actual making... What a total bargain! I think anyone would love to make up that lovely fabric (of course you allowed for pattern matching didn't you), they will be stunning.

So not really maximalist, but the colours should work well with those in the tapestry, and both Rosel and Morris drew inspiration from the medieval. I think the 'natural' background of the curtain fabric will compensate for the rather too 'overall' nature of the pattern. Family events meant I had to give up ideas of pilgrimages to factory outlets - but thanks to everyone who made suggestions.

A Marketplace treasure! I love the colours of the fabric, I hope you have many peaceful nights of sleep in your new/old bedroom.
