Where to stop painting when your stairs are in your living room

So, moved into a new house 6 weeks ago and want to paint the living room.

The stairs are in the living room so where do I stop the colour/paint?

The attached photo is taken from me sitting on my sofa with the stairs directly ahead.

The door is to the small hall which leads outside.

Leave the wall that is next to the stairs white.

We painted all the way up to the ceiling of the landing wall

If you do t want to carry the same colour all the way the I would do the walls facing you (purple) in one colour and the wall going up the stairs and the one that faces you as you come down them (green) in a different colour.

so that it colour blocks the different areas

We've got the same setup and have painted the wall next to the stairs a completely different colour so that it's become a statement wall. It looks lovely.

I hope OP can cut in a bit better than this.

😂😂

Never mind the cutting in, what about the colour choices 🙈

It looks a fresh, crisp and beautiful brilliant white. 🤤 I'd leave it.

I would probably paint the stair wall as a feature wall. I'm currently working through my house painting and I have no idea how to do above the stairs so I'd also probably leave it 😂

Congratulations on your new house

I’d paint up the stairs from the ceiling, parallel to the skirting board as you go up the stairs. So then you kind of end up with the lower part of upstairs wall painted same as downstairs. And means you can just leave the stairwell and don’t have to do the ladder on the stairs thing.

Change colour at the INTERNAL corner. It looks much smarter.
