Hello!
I’ve bought this at a flea market. I liked the colours and the 80s look. Now, what on earth is it for/from??
Thank you. 🤩

It's a thingamajig if I ever saw one!

Probably just decorative, someone's GCSE project maybe!

No, my DM had a Thingsmajig, that was a kitchen tool something like a spatula that could also be used as a slotted spoon or (according to what was inscribed upon it, including its name) whisk.

Hat stand? If you google 'wire hat stand' similar comes up, but not the same.

endofthelinefinally · 07/08/2024 09:23

It looks as if there should be a second item suspended from the loop. Maybe a plant pot/a lamp/mirror or similar.

endofthelinefinally · 07/08/2024 09:25

Oh - just realised it is only 20cm high. Hmm.

heldinadream · 07/08/2024 09:28

The blue feet are rubber and the red spiral can turn left or right. Early failed and discarded prototype election swingometer.

invisiblecat · 07/08/2024 15:11

Something to hold your avocado while it ripens?

Ormally · 07/08/2024 15:16

Kegel exerciser. But it's missing a couple of its original bits.

AylesBuck · 07/08/2024 15:28

Lostinbrum · 07/08/2024 07:41

Can you slide the sprial bit up? Like hold the feet of the yellow legs and slide the spiral foot up towards the end squeezing the yellow bits together as it gets near the top?

Not really no.

Google search has no idea!

I tried… nothing…

It’s the nicest one of those I’ve ever seen. 🤣
Is it an umbrella stand?

TheNinjaWife · 07/08/2024 16:58

It’s a little similar to this one

TheNinjaWife · 07/08/2024 17:00

I’ll try again.

menopausalmare · 07/08/2024 17:07

A sex toy.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 07/08/2024 17:24

Genuinely no idea but this thread is amusing me so felt i should contribute.

Holding knitting or macrame?

SaintHonoria · 07/08/2024 17:39

Bottle draining rack.

Tikk · 07/08/2024 17:59

It's a gizmo

IAmYourFuckOffButton · 07/08/2024 18:42

@AylesBuck you need to go to Reddit and join r/Whatisthis post your item and usually somebody knows the answer. People post all sorts of unusual items and it can be interesting.

charlieinthehaystack · 07/08/2024 19:04

its got a very 60s sputnik kind of vibe myself i think its for baby bunnies to sit in or maybe to keep coconuts in or maybe its just a whata ooma jig

AdaColeman · 07/08/2024 19:21

I think it's 1950s era, and it's to stand on your cocktail cabinet to hold swizzle sticks and cocktail umbrellas. 🍹 🍸 🍹 🍸 🍹 🍸

Or...
It's a studio prop from the famous aliens Smash potato adverts. 🤖 👽 🤖 👽

I'm having a good laugh at your suggestions. Thank you all for trying!

“Something a man has in his shed for an unknown purpose but it might come in useful.”
Most probably! And now I took over and it’s on my desk waiting for a purpose too.

Maybe someone made it for the sole purpose of messing with someone's head one day?

It’s definitely not a thingamajig or a gizmo.
I’m pretty sure it’s a whatsaname, or failing that a doodah.

littlekipling · 07/08/2024 22:55

It looks a little like an incense stick holder

Difficult to say without dimensions, but I think you put your head in it to stop it hitting the table at dull dinner parties.

I think more 60's than 80's, so alternatively it could be a 'hippy-hippy-shake' thing.

🤣🤣🤣
