Which carpet would you choose?

I need to buy a new bedroom carpet. Unfortunately the wallpaper I have is much greyer than I thought based on the sample (described as pearl but definitely grey). I don’t want to make the room really dark (know grey is really unfashionable) so am thinking about something paler? (I l live alone so hopefully will only have the odd spillage? ).

Have three samples from the local carpet shop but just cant choose. I’m not sure if it’s brain fog or if I’m just loosing confidence after my wallpaper fail. Anyway I wondered if you might be able to help me decide which, of the three samples in the photo below, you would go for ? Or would you get something completely different? I’ve never bought carpet before.

The guy in the shop says they would all cost the same amount : two are wool the other polypropylene. Am told they are all moth resistant.

Any Thoughts? Thank you.

The first one on the left. The middle one reminds me of a 1980s care home and getting a cream coloured carpet is madness even if you never wear shoes in the house or have guests.

Dottiespotty · 22/02/2024 10:32

First one looks the nicest in terms of quality and is the best match.

TotemPolly · 22/02/2024 10:32

How about a colour ? Maybe a very dark pink .

TheWildWest · 22/02/2024 10:33

Yes, l prefer the darker one, l like the wallpaper.
l recently bought new curtains and wasn't sure to begin with, but now they have definately grown on me. They were just so different from what l had before.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 22/02/2024 10:33

Definitely the first one

FabFebHalfTerm · 22/02/2024 10:33

I'd need to see the one under the curtains under the wall paper & vice versa to be sure, but if you're keeping the curtains the one under them looks like a good option.

midgetastic · 22/02/2024 10:44

If you want none grey .. plenty of colour you could have with that paper ?

ToMissAdventure · 22/02/2024 10:58

Such beautiful wallpaper. I think the carpet on the left works best.

Deep teals and bay blues would be great accent colours for soft furnishings

ShowOfHands · 22/02/2024 11:01

Of those three, hands down the one on the left.

HolidayAtNight · 22/02/2024 11:04

How about a deep teal?

@ToMissAdventure Snap!

OldTinHat · 22/02/2024 11:14

The one on the left in the photo. I was also going to mention moths (problem here!) but see you're already on the ball there.

HesterRoon · 22/02/2024 14:11

One on the left-looks like my bedroom carpet and we love it.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/02/2024 14:15

Do you really need to change the carpet from wear or other issues. If not, you could get some coloured rugs to cheer things up a bit ( and you can change them when you feel like it)

Ciri · 22/02/2024 14:54

NOT the one on the left if you're trying to avoid grey. Your wallpaper is grey and that carpet is grey.

And never go for a looped carpet if you have animals.. I speak from bitter experience.

I'd go for the cream one on the right (or the one on the left in a cream colour). It will brighten the room enormously and is more fashionable than grey.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 22/02/2024 14:57

The one on the left in terms of texture/material, but I'd go for a different colour, something more like the one on the right but not as light.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 22/02/2024 14:58

The cream on the right is the classiest looking.

NomDePrune · 22/02/2024 15:03

Cream vote here. Are you going to spill red wine/ketchup in your bedroom?

With cream carpet and grey wall you could eventually change the curtains for almost any colour - blues/pink/oranges/yellows...

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 22/02/2024 15:11

Also I think carpets aside your main issue is that the wallpaper does not go with the curtains at all. The wallpaper is more cool toned and the curtains are a warmer yellowy tone. I actually like the wallpaper (this is from someone who generally dislikes grey decor) but I'd change the curtains for sure.

Mogs43 · 22/02/2024 16:21

Thank you so much for all your comments.

I know I need to change the curtains: they were a gift from my much loved (and now deceased) Dad so I’m finding that hard. Probably need to work up to it. Also the wallpaper sample seemed so different to how it actually looks up!

i did see a nice picture of the wallpaper online (attached) but despite the guy in the shop helping me I’m not sure any of the samples actually look like the one pictured. They also looked so different in his shop: the pinky one is called ecru boucle. lol.

Learning such a lot.

Thanks again.

Still the cream unless you want your room to look like a black and white photograph

JaninaDuszejko · 22/02/2024 17:29

Not the grey carpet but you'll have to decide how much stains on the white carpet will annoy you and how much time you are prepared to spend on cleaning it, I think because it doesn't have much texture to it it'll show every mark. Gorgeous though, as is the wallpaper.

Seaside3 · 22/02/2024 19:12

The cream looks lovely. In my wildest dreams I will.one day have a cream carpet.

Darklingthrush123 · 22/02/2024 21:44

Personally I would go with the grey and get some new coloured curtains. Keep the ones from your Dad though. You could use them in the future or in another room.

JobMatch3000 · 22/02/2024 21:53

Whatever colour you go for get the wool, not a horrible plastic carpet.
