What to put on landing walls etc and where to put it? (pic attached)

The landing of our terraced house is dark as there is no window. The ceilings are very high as it is a victorian terrace.
I really don't know what to put on the walls (whether pictures or mirrors) and where to position them. I feel the stairs wall needs something as it is such a huge space but I don't know what.
I was thinking mirror but don't know where to position it.

I would also like something on the floor to the right of the banister, maybe a big plant or a vase but don't know if that will look weird

As you can tell I am rubbish at this sort of thing!

Personally I’d have it painted a nice warm colour. Like a dark sage green or olive, but if you like the white, then I think some large warm coloured prints and a plant would go some way to helping and a better lamp shade. It really depends on budget.

Get mix tiles. Then you'll have lads of photos on the wall which trigger memories. Better than a shelf / painting.

Budget isn't too bad. Would like to get a new light fitting. Perhaps one more ornate and less plain?

We are thinking of painting the stair wall in a different colour. We did want mostly white but now it's been done it feels a bit much.

I'd put a massive fabric wall hanging on the wall over the stairs. Fabric because it is lightweight and not too expensive.

One big dramatic thing would be much better than lots of small photos.

Yes I think that would work. Something ornate and larger.

we have wallpapered one side of our hall, and painted the other side in a toning colour, and added lots of artwork, have a huge floor standing plant on the landing on the way up and it is nice and warm/welcoming.

i think it’s very easy to forget your hall and landing, but it’s actually such a big impression place for your home.

Strangely enough, I was just reading blog that popped up on Pinterest called designsixtynine.co.uk and the blogger had completed his hall refurb using Valspar Empirical Grey. He added panelling and lots of great pictures and really made it a beautiful space. There's a school of thought that says if you have a dark space, embrace the dark, and don't try to 'bounce light around' with a light colour, which doesn't really work. Also that you can be daring and dramatic in a hallway/staircase because it is a space people pass through quickly. So you're not sitting in it trying to relax/work/sleep/whatever.

I'd replace the dark lampshade with crystal chandelier or modern equivalent, and bright bulbs. A big mirror on the far wall to reflect light.

I think a more statement light fitting and a large plant or small chair, once you have those you may not feel the need for something on the wall.

If you have the budget I really recommend getting a velux put above the stairs (builders create a large reveal through the attic). We have a similar landing and have a velux and it lets so much light in, also great for ventilation in the summer, ours is remote control opening.
