Can anyone give some advice - 2 ovens, double oven or combi oven?

I'm getting our kitchen redone, have never replaced or chosen a kitchen before. One thing I'm trying to decide is what oven to have. I've a double oven just now, hardly ever use the top part (just for grilling as it takes ages to heat up, seems a bit unreliable in temp and can't fit much in), though there have been times I wished I had more oven space (Sunday roasts, when baking and preparing dinner etc). I also have a counter top microwave for defrosting (don't really use it for anything else).
So do I get 2 full size ovens, a double oven (but make sure the top has a fan), or a full size and a combi microwave (my experience of them before has not been good, but maybe they've got better?)
Any experience / advice would be great. I'd go for 2 ovens in a heartbeat if I had loads of space, but it will take away some valuable cupboard space..

What we've you go for, I'd highly recommend having them at eye level. Makes getting everything in and out easier, and keeping it clean easier.

Highly recommend a Neff slide and glide like on Bake Off, plus warming drawer and a microwave. We do loads of cooking meals and baking and is great for everything and fits loads in.

Two ovens! I was in a French Air BnB that had two, it was great, so much faster. Also second the ‘Ready Steady Cook’ set-up (two next to one another at eye height). I have a range cooker, had no choice, pig to clean.

This..... We went from a double oven to 2 ovens.... Best move ever!! And love the slide and hide function too.... Saves the kids/dogs heads

We've got 2 ovens at eye level. Makes such a difference when cooking a big dinner like Xmas dinner. Would recommend if you have the space.

That's what I thought - 2 ovens it is! I can always store some trays in them if space is tight.
I know I'd always regret not having the 2.
Can I ask, what's the benefit of slide and hide?

The doors slide in under the oven as in Bake Off, rather than sticking out, so you can get right in about the contents. Sounds v. handy for cleaning, moving large or heavy stuff about in the oven. Much too expensive for me to have one never mind two but someday 😍

JeanGabin · 11/11/2023 21:36

Thanks noooooo - easier to use the space that's available then?
Not sure I'll be able to afford if I've got 2, especially with the worktop we've just chosen Shock but maybe one of them!.
Thanks so much for the advice Gin

I have two neff slide n glide. Depending on how tall you are, if you're only having one, have the slide n glide as the top oven for easier access. I wouldn't be able to reach in with a normal oven door. Unless you're having them side by side. We have the more traditional model, with knobs you can turn as opposed to the digital, wifi versions - they were also cheaper. Our shelves are also glide. They're brilliant.

Oh and we went for two ovens in the end as was cheaper than one oven + microwave or compact oven, and they were much better on energy consumption.

Not sure if you’ve looked at costs but the combi microwaves are pretty expensive for what they are!

I had a double oven (eye level) fitted in my new kitchen earlier this year. The lower oven is the same size/capacity as the single ones and the top oven is perfect for grilling and for small quantities eg. a tray of veggies for roasting or baking baguettes/small rolls. Who needs to heat up a full-size oven just for that?
On the other hand, there's only the two of us and if I was still doing a lot of entertaining I would have gone for two single ovens (not a mw/combi one - the capacity is less).
