Lampshades. How on earth do you choose?

It's just a minefield. And so different looking at a shade in a shop, with high ceilings and loads of space. Bring it home and it's just wrong - wrong colour, wrong size, inside too visible, just wrong wrong wrong.
It's the hardest part of home decor.

So any tips in choosing the right shades and preventing expensive and time consuming mistakes gratefully received.

Just to add, I'm talking ceiling light lampshades. We have loads of lamps and no issue with these

No advice but I'm having the same issue atm, hopefully someone has a great tip!

I agree with, it's the hardest bit!

LED light thingy, no lampshade required.

I’ve always found getting some old cardboard to make a crappy mock up and getting husband to hold it at the point of hanging is a good way to at least gage the size needed.

Oh, and on the colour find a T-shirt as similar as possible to the shade (and again get someone else) to hold it next to the bare bulb. Not perfect but gives an idea of what that light it gives off.

I have paper globes with wire winding through them everywhere. They were about £2 from ikea and I bought a job lot when I moved in to not have bare bulbs. But actually I like the simplicity and I'm not planning on swapping them now
