What colour scheme for edwardian semi hall landing stairs and cloakroom?

Its a large hall to decorate.

I have:

  • cream travertine marble floors downstairs,
  • beige/gold/oatmeal carpet, on stairs and landing
  • plus gold curtains that I could replace but do like.
  • Bathroom suite is cream and ivory including splashback.

I have NO idea what to paint it. Decorator coming end of October to strip, skim and repaint.

If I could have exactly what I wanted it would be a striking gold toned wallpaper on the drop wall then cream/warm white walls and panelling but white woodwork and archway.

As I'm getting a loft conversion in a years time I can't wallpaper the drop right now.

I have considered both a sage-y green or duck egg-y blue on the drop wall and in my cloakroom with the rest cream and white. Thing is I like neutral. I don't want to be totally dull but too much colour doesn't seem restful and cosy.

Stop me doing it all school house white or timeless or similar bland idea.

I have pics but bit scared to post as identifying.

Please help!

What colours will you use in other rooms that lead off it?

What colour is the inside of the front door?

Do you have any particular artwork in mind that you can pull some colours from?

It's a cream/gold colour scheme in my bedroom that I'm redecorating and the lounge which I'm not redecorating. Cream and gold suits me but if I can't add a nice gold toned wallpaper then I have to try and create interest with a paint scheme.

Most of the house is fairly neutral with some wallpapers for interest (my lounge has got lovely detailed botanical cream and gold wallpaper over all 4 walls.

No artwork! I don't much like things on walls. I've always wallpapered even though it's not been fashionable. It's suited my house.

I'm leaning towards crafted paint by crown in craft fair as a soft green shade. (Or something sage like). Do the drop wall and downstairs toilet in that, keep the rest of the walls a warm white or cream. May even go as far as a beige like Egyptian cotton. White on the woodwork and feature plasterwork. Possibly a different colour inner door. Pick up the green theme in my bedroom with a cream/green paper. Need to find something restful, light and not too busy.

I don't want to replace lights or curtains right now...

I hate paint schemes.

I love cream and gold and would be tempted to choose some new wallpaper with gold and repaint the cream. Do you have corbels?

If you really like gold and cream, I would paint everything white now and then waite a year until your loft conversion is finished and then put up the golden wallpsper in your staircase. In the meantime, you could hang up a golden artwork/mirror or just frame some wallpaper panels and hang them up.
