1930s house owners... show me your alcove wardrobes

We live in a bog standard 30s semi with alcoves on either side of the chimney breast. Currently have 2 mismatched freestanding wardrobes giving our bedroom a slightly studenty feel. As we are closer to 50 than 20 I'd like something a bit more grown up! I want to get quotes from a local joiner for some built in wardrobes in keeping with the age of our house but am not totally sure what I'm asking for. Would love some inspiration from others with this kind of house 😀

Following with interest! Our alcoves are really quite narrow (100cm if that) so hoping to see some clever designs...

100cm does sound like a challenge! Hopefully someone will come along with some inspiration.

Have done very similar in white in my bedroom too

I live in a house built in 1931 - it still has some of the original built in wardrobes - here are two of them, plus the linen cupboard on the landing, which is huge and an example of the room doors. The white wardrobe is in an alcove next to the chimney breast - the warmth from the chimney keeps the clothes aired! Please excuse the pink and purple - my daughter's choice 😁

watching with interest as last night i was discussing built in storage in our 1930s alcoves

Thanks @sarsaparillatree that would be my DD's dream colour combo! The white painted one is the kind of thing I had in mind so seeing it is really helpful.

Might be worth checking out what people have done with IKEA Pax if you're on Insta.
They do various widths and heights so you can modify them to look built in.

We have three sliding doors suspended from the ceiling along the whole length of the wall with modular shelving on each side. We're looking to replace the doors with something less twee, probably shaker style, and have a shallow dressing table built into the chimney breast bit.

(I wouldn't say I'm a clothes addict but when we first lived here, we had one side each. Now it's all mine!)
