2 sets curtains in one room. Do they need to match?

We have a long thin extension room to side of house with regular window at no one end and French windows /patio doors at the other (what's the difference anyway - one for me to Google after I've posted !).
Could I put two different but tonal sets up? Or must they match. Thinking a checked set one end to short window and long single colour in toning shade on garden windows ? But I've not got a clue really. Main reason is I'm scouting for second hand ones ! Rare to find two sets

Absolutely. Sounds like they are sufficiently far apart and personally I really dislike matchy matchy in interiors.

I like coordinating but totally matching isn't me

I found some brand new ones I loved in a v dark fabric but they'd lose impact if on both ends. Two patterns is too much right? I can't visualise it at all as it's such a neutral room and ready for colour or pattern and I'm being pushed for a grey and white box by one teen and 1970s kitsch by DH !!

Could a checked pair in a tartan/ tweed type work if I pick out the thin stripe in a plain curtain?

I know I'm debating with myself at this point but how about these ? As an example of colours and how they "might" go. I'm not mad keen on the geometric pattern because I'm scarred by DH throwing away my rug like this in a rage because it wouldn't lie flat - instead of putting it elsewhere. But anyway .....

I'd put that sort of curtain together in one room. The colours match so it's not going to be a jarring visual effect. In-laws have a similar large patio window, small side window in their lounge. The big window has the patterned curtains while the small one has a single colour pair, matched from the big ones. It works really well.

I wouldn't do two different patterns but one pattern, one plain would be fine.

Are these ok ? Please help. I'm hopeless

Personally, I would opt for a blind in the regular window with complementing curtains the other end.

It's what we did in our Master Bedroom (we used same material for both though) and it looked really cohesive without being matchy matchy
