Soup bowls - help me find soup bowls!

I absolutely hate searching the internet, but need these delivered...

My mother would like some soup bowls. White or beige - with a beige or brown coloured rim.

And....square, deep shape / type. They like a chunky soup.

But not so big they won't fit in the cupboard space (small kitchen cupboards).

Anyone seen anything like this?? Not too cheap (they are a gift) but under £100/£150 for 4 ideally. Could spend more if lovely.

White or beige - with a beige or brown coloured rim.

And definitely not white...

Plain white as I'm entirely white a definite no.

Am I the only one utterly confused by your various descriptions of white, not white???

Do you mean all beige, but if white- it must have a beige rim??? 😕

In an ideal world:

The bowls must be white or beige. There must be a trim. The trim can be beige or brown.

So could be beige on beige but with different type of beige (oatmeal v linen v sand etc).

It’s the square bit that is tricky. Can they be persuaded away from the square?

ShadyCat · 27/08/2023 23:32

Square as in this sort of shape?

Thinking a bit out of the box. Could you buy white ones in the right shape then paint them? I had a quick google and there are a few sites mentioning painting with glass paint on glazed plates then baking them to set the colour/make them dishwasher safe etc but it would just be if you could get the right colour for the paint then I guess. Or maybe if there's a local pottery painting place they might be able to help.

It's a bit more of a faff which is the only thing. I'm almost as picky as your DM. It took me 2 years to find pasta bowls I like and I'm still using a basic dinner set I hate because I haven't found the perfect one to replace it with yet and I don't like the one that matches the pasta bowls.

BlurMeUp · 27/08/2023 23:52

Yes - @ShadyCat - exactly that!

I think she'd be persuaded against the square by beautiful (and definitely beige) ones....

I keep coming back to the Denby ones...

And I've checked size with her tonight - definitely 600ml and not the 1200ml ramen style...

@ShinyPikachu I love the thinking but I'm the least crafty person I know. I do wonder if a local potter option is worth exploring but suspect not in terms of time and cost...

She’s not going to find anything that specific OP, she must know that. Rather than conceiving somethjng in her head that may not exist, why not get her to look at the available options and choose from that.

She needs to be the one to decide what she will compromise on. Shape/trim/colour.

Argh! You have just reminded me of my nanas soup bowls when I was a child and forced (yes forced) me to buy these in a moment of pure nostalgia.

You can’t put soup in square bowls. Soup is round.

Hahahaha!!!

Sorry, I have just seen these are out of stock.

Turquoisa80 · 28/08/2023 00:28

Theres some nice corelle square bowls on Amazon

BlurMeUp · 28/08/2023 08:58

Those eBay ones are possibly the worst yet @ManyATrueWord !

I know she should compromise but we tend to come up trumps with her odd requests. But this one may be the limit.

The Corelle ones are great but I can't find a beige trim - the website has black, blue, red, green - but no type of brown.

I keep coming back to the Denby ones...

I live right next to Denby and you can definitely paint your own stuff there and I wouldn't be that surprised if they wouldn't just whip you up some square ones. Grin

I think the denby ones are the best despite their lack of squareness.

Get her some of those coloured glasses that dyslexics wear, she will never know.

They are glass, will glass be ok. I remember white glass crockery from the 70s, I loved it.

BlurMeUp · 28/08/2023 11:06

I'm going to email pictures and talk her through them. Will explain the glass (the blurb says they are like Pyrex?!)
