What mattress did you go for and would you recommend it?

I am in the market and am thinking of the tempur (firm)

Two singles, completely different mattresses too that meet our very different needs. So, so much better, you can't feel the other person moving, that's the best bit!

OddBoots · 24/07/2023 19:13

This one: https://www.costco.co.uk/c/Silentnight-Miracoil-Memory-Cushion-Top-Mattress-Super-King/p/290433

We had the same type on our double 10 years ago and when we went bigger I was delighted they still made them.

greenacrylicpaint · 24/07/2023 19:17

2x ikea simple foam single matresses & ikea premium memory foam matress topper.

LadyEloise1 · 24/07/2023 19:42

Make sure the mattress can be turned upside down and not just rotated. You'll get double the life out of the mattress.
Sadly we didn't and it has dipped massively. Gutted 😩

spitefulandbadgrammar · 24/07/2023 19:48

We did two singles and a wool topper too. It’s glorious, like DP isn’t even there. Only the snoring gives it away…

PastTheGin · 24/07/2023 20:02

We “upgraded” from 2 single IKEA mattresses to a super king size Simba. I wish we had gone with 2 singles again.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/07/2023 20:27

2 singles. Far better as you get to choose the right mattress for you. I have a pure latex one, dh a pocket sprung - both bought abroad.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 24/07/2023 20:37

Hypnos Elite Firm with a Panda memory foam topper. It's the best of both worlds.
Friends have just had their Emma mattress replaced for free due to it dipping within a short period of time.

Chanhedforthis · 24/07/2023 20:46

We couldn't get a superking mattress upstairs so had to buy a rolled up vaccum packed one.

Rollo was the brand cost us over 1000 but worth every penny.

Another vote for at least looking at John Ryan, it is where I learned a lot about mattress construction, they had amazing videos of them cutting open mattresses and going through their composition.

We are lucky that we live near to a bed company that makes their own mattresses as well as the bases. We discussed our needs, Dh is a big rugby player sized chap and gets too hot. We lay on a lot of mattresses in their shop and they made one for us. We could then choose the base, the colour and the feet too.

It was 10 years ago and the whole thing cost just under £1k because with them you cut out the middle man. It is a zip and link to be able to get it up the stairs and into our bedroom. If I was buying one now I would be looking at them again or John Ryan.

We have a medium Tempur and love it, but be warned, it will ruin you for sleeping on any other mattress ever 😂

Whattosay81 · 24/07/2023 21:37

Temper it’s got an orange band around it and a cool gel topper maybe? We love it BUT no springs for action ifyswim lol

HVPRN · 24/07/2023 21:44

We have a Tempur Medium and we've had it around 8 weeks now, and need to replace it as it dips on both sides. Had the guy out who spots faults, and he says as the dips are only 20cm and not 30cm it is not classed as a fault. Not happy so will swop using the 100 day guarantee. I noticed the dips in the first week, but the shop said to turn it and give it time etc.

It's such a shame as felt so lovely in the shop, however it is much softer to sleep on on our slats than on the shops divan base. Wondering if to go 'firm' like you OP. We had a medium king sized for 4 years previously; no dipping and excellent condition.

Maraudingmarauders · 24/07/2023 21:51

We got an igel advance 3000 from Benson for Beds. Apart from being the tallest mattress on earth it's incredibly comfortable.

user50and · 24/07/2023 21:51

I've got a Tempur on mine, took a while to get used to but love it now!

AllTheWeatherAllTheTime · 24/07/2023 21:55

We bought the Premier Inn one - a Hypnos pocket sprung one of some sort, along with their mattress topper. It is like sleeping on a cloud.

100Bees · 24/07/2023 21:55

Ours is latex (I think). I find any type of memory foam too hot.

Fedupwitheveryone · 24/07/2023 22:15

Vispring bought at John Lewis (either firm or medium?) about 7/8 years ago and in perfect shape

Only issue is that DH and I broke up, I inherited the bed, and now i can't flip the thing on my own as it's too heavy........(first world problems)

SlipperyLizard · 24/07/2023 22:57

We have a super king tempur mattress that is at least 15 years old, probably more. Still as comfy as the day we bought it.

The only problem, as others have said, is that it ruins every other mattress! Got a tempur pillow too which I love.

winterchills · 24/07/2023 22:57

Following 😄I absolutely hate my mattress so reading all these

SheerLucks · 25/07/2023 00:06

Choosea · 24/07/2023 14:48

Same as previous poster. Emma mattress in the sale a few years ago - no complaints! Other than it's a mammouth task to change the bedding on a super king!

Same! We tried Tempur in a showroom and it was so blissful we nodded off! But aren't they £1000s??

When we first got our Emma mattress I found it too hard, but customer service advised us to remove all the protective covers so you literally have just the foam, which we put on our own mattress protector and sheet. It's been perfect for five years now.

CoachBeardsJane · 25/07/2023 01:59

We got a John Ryan by design bed, we got a zip and link superking plus bed frame and headboard for £1200 it is 3 years old and honestly the most perfect bed ever. It looks brand new.

They call you to double check body weight and sleeping position because it changes the type of mattress you need. Then they're hand made in Manchester
