I am redecorating the lounge. Walls are going to be warm neutral, Mellow Mocha. Carpet Gala Cord Dovetail. Settee is leather, denim blue, not changing.
I am pretty set on this rug: www.rugsdirect.co.uk/rugs/traditional/gabbeh/matruh-51c/

Please can you tell me what you think to these curtains:

I would be getting the cushions to match.

I think that they go really well, but just need a bit of reassurance.

They look like they match beautifully but can you get a fabric sample from the curtains to check first?

Ireallydohope · 19/03/2023 11:10

They're very dowdy and look very dated

It's a no from me

MargotDeWitt · 19/03/2023 11:11

@Geneticsbunny thank you! I am sure they match, but going to store today to see if they have any samples.
I was just worried if they look a bit meh and carpetty. DD13 really doesn't like them.

This is the colour of my settee, and a patch of the new colour. These cushions I bought but am taking back, as can't find similar curtains.

@Ireallydohope thank you for your honest feedback.
Can you recommend any alternatives?

How about something like these from JL

@Ireallydohope thank you, but those are too flowery for my taste and wouldn't go with my rug.

Ireallydohope · 19/03/2023 11:27

Have a look at their other ones

I love the Sara Miller designs they are so gorgeous.

Ireallydohope · 19/03/2023 11:31

It's hard. It took me ages to choose curtains for my living room and even then I just bought them on impulse after deciding I suddenly hated the ones I had (also influenced by my teen DD)

I really love them though

MargotDeWitt · 19/03/2023 11:34

I like these www.johnlewis.com/harlequin-pythagorum-pair-lined-velvet-eyelet-curtains-blue/p5130575

I'm useless at this, but given the pattern in the rug, should you go for plain curtains?

I prefer the JL curtains to the Denelm ones.

mrsfennel · 19/03/2023 12:59

My honest opinion is no only because the sofa is awful (sorry!). But I know my taste some people will think its awful, so if you like them go for it.

Everything looks Argos 1995 to me, but my taste is very old fashioned and too vintage for many people. So like I say, go for either curtains as as long as you like them thats all thats matter.

Personal taste is just that, there are no wrong choices.

@mrsfennel thank you, but as I said in my opening post, the sofa is existing, and I am not changing it at present. I was specifically asking for advice about curtains, hence the thread title.

I can't get your rug link to work, OP, but I like those curtains. I like the soft muted colours. I'm not a fan of flowery curtains. Having said that, I have plain curtains the same colour as my walls, which I also like #nohelp

mrsfennel · 19/03/2023 17:50

@MargotDeWitt Good point, sorry I got carried away! The colours do definitely go, I prefer the Dunelm ones, they seem more timeless because of the pattern I think.

Xrays · 19/03/2023 17:56

I like the John Lewis ones. The first ones not so much. Have a look at Asda direct as well as their curtains are surprisingly very good value and better quality than I would have thought they were and they have some nice designs.

MargotDeWitt · 19/03/2023 18:45

What does everyone think of these?

DD likes them, so that's something 🤔

How much is DD paying towards them.

@Riapia she struggles with change, so I like to get her on board with decisions like this. Plus, she has a good sense of colour and style.

The rug is really nice but I think plain neutral color curtains will be better in the room otherwise it wil be too busy for me

Badtasteflump · 19/03/2023 21:50

The rug or curtains are both fine individually but not together - too much pattern that almost matches but doesn't quite. Choose one then go plain for the other.

QuillBill · 19/03/2023 21:51

How much is DD paying towards them.

What a weird thing to say. Confused

It's perfectly ordinary to ask other people in your own family what they think of things. Especially when you aren't that sure yourself. She's asking a load of people on Mumsnet what they think but she shouldn't take any notice of her own teenager.

I like the first JL ones you linked to. The blue-ish ones.

RavenT · 19/03/2023 21:58

I really like the rug but agree with a pp that plain curtains would work much better.

WinterMusings · 19/03/2023 22:07

@MargotDeWitt in my
opinion, you could have the rug OR the curtains, but not both. I'd buy the (last) curtains & send the rug back, choose a plain one.
