Where to buy a really lovely soft cosy blanket

not quite money no object, but nearly.I want a really really cosy lovely soft blanket, to go over laps while watching telly, or my shoulders when I’m working. Something really really lovely, that feels like a hug. Natural materials, no particular colour scheme (just beautiful!)
where to look? I’ve admired things from Mourne Textiles before but nothing from there appeals right now…

My fave cosiest blanket is 95% merino wool and 5% cashmere. Really soft and cosy and keeps me so warm.

Came here to say Firespiral too, they are brushed cotton, so soft and a lovely weight.

The National Trust has some lovely soft wool ones.

Absolutely delighted to see the Firespiral love on this thread - I clicked to make exactly the same recommendation. These are not my pics but I have this rainbow starmap blanket and it is genuinely one of my favourite possessions. They are woven in Lancashire from recycled cotton and Firespiral are a very small, woman-owned business.

Lakeland do some amazingly soft ones

Surely it’s got to be cashmere?

Anything with polyester just feels plasticky and that’s not what you want.

Lots in sales at the moment, which reminds me it’s probably a good time to stock up on cashmere jumpers!

What about alpaca ?

stringbean · 10/03/2023 20:46

The British Blanket Company does beautiful 100% wool blankets - I have large ones for our sofas (our front room is cold if fire not lit) but they do an armchair throw if you need something smaller. Cannot recommend enough https://thebritishblanketcompany.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAx6ugBhCcARIsAGNmMbj2qKwdYgEOJon7uW3CaZBcjjy7pf5OQuP-9bzKki3kzeHCPtvfkYaAkBSEALww_wcB

I came to recommend The British Blanket Company but have been beaten to it! I've several of their large throws; fabulous quality, beautiful colour range and fast delivery.

Honestly, 100% wool is okay, but 95% merino wool and 5% cashmere is where it's at. So much softer.

I got a cashmere blanket on ebay - it feels so lovely. The dog steals it every time - even he can tell the difference between that and the standard wool blanket.😂

We have a few Bronte merino Lambswool blankets-beautiful patterns and incredibly soft and warm. Made in mills in Yorkshire. If you want softness, buy merino rather than other wool.

wonkylegs · 13/03/2023 09:11

I would go for alpaca if I had a decent budget

Loads of other options out there

I got a lovely Bronte made in England wool blanket from TK Maxx recently. Also a gorgeously soft Italian one from there as well. TK maxx is great for cushions and throws.

minipie · 13/03/2023 16:54

I have a Bronte by Moon blanket and it lives on my lap on winter evenings. It has been washed multiple times (cool wash) and comes out really well - albeit it has shrunk slightly over many washes as you’d expect with wool. Cat loves it! British Blanket Co look very similar.

I have an atlantic blanket and it is the softest thing I've ever owned, even after washing. It's so lovely

I also came to recommend Atlantic blankets. I have two, they are both so lovely, soft and cosy.

SoManyCreepyBears · 13/03/2023 17:01

Have a look here- I have one and love it. It’s a proper wool blanket so it feels heavier than fleecey ones. Properly cosy.

I’ve three wool blankets from the National Trust shop as they are just perfect for snuggling with a good weight to them too. Definitely worth a look.
