... if you hate them (rather than just not sure) to the point they’re ruining the look of the kitchen for you... then cut your losses, look for alternatives and sell them.

Ive just bought a light for over our table in our new kitchen. It’s not what I hoped for but is just-about OK. It’ll be gone if I see something I really love that’s in budget, but it’ll do for now.

Thank you... good shout. I think I may try and live with them for a bit and if I really hate them then get rid.

I love them, but caveat - my usually good taste has been known to go a bit kitsch where lights are concerned.

CherrySocks · 15/02/2023 22:41

My first thought was that they were cute because they looked like a bunch of helium balloons floating upside down.
My second thought was won't people hit their heads on them when they stand up from the end seats.

We are reserving those seats for very short people 😂😂

You could put coloured bulbs ( or even colour changing bulbs, that would be fab) in them to make it all come to life.

Kentlassie · 15/02/2023 22:44

Are they over the table (or island, can’t tell what it is)? They look like they are hung too wide, can you put them over the table/ island?

Yeah we could definitely use bulbs with a warmer tone! Thank you.

They are at each end of a dining table. I basically couldn't fiddle around with the electrics and though we would try and stick with the configuration and do one at each side. Sorry if that doesn't make sense!

They are cool, the angle looks odd.
How about a splash of colour like a bunch of flowers.

LunchBoxPolice · 15/02/2023 22:50

I really like them.

We have been renovating a derelict property and now at the point of deciding lighting/furniture etc etc. Its SO tricky to get it right so I feel the pain OP.

My honest 1st thoughts were:

  • bunch of balloons
  • too many messy cords hanging from the ceiling
  • too many dusty balls to clean!

I personally would have gone with something simpler- the shell chairs and patterned carpet and sideboard, along with the marble pattern table provide alot of interest and texture already. IMO. I'm FAR from any designer though and if you like them, that is all that matters.

It's so difficult isn't it??? This was one of the final things left after doing the whole house and agonising over every little detail and I feel like at this point I was like yep - looks fun let's get them! I should in hindsight have chosen something simple as you suggest.

I think I am going to have to live with it and see how I feel and like someone else suggested if I hate them then sell And buy something else. Frustrating as I am so happy with every other thing we have chosen in the house but we love and learn!

Aah the tallest person in my household is 5’4” and she’s only here part time, I’m even shorter and DD is ickle, so the height issue never occurred to me! As a pp said, shortening the cords might fix that issue? What colour are the chairs? Could go for a table runner in a paler shade (eg sky blue if the chairs are dark blue) to help it to hang together, then pink bulbs or on the wall? I have to say, I find pink lighting is very flattering to my dodgy skin..

DoingItUp · 15/02/2023 23:34

I LOVE these lights but I’m not sure they work well over a kitchen island - I think better over a dining table? I would keep them and use elsewhere.

DoingItUp · 15/02/2023 23:46

Just realised it is the dining table. I agree with a pp that one centred over the table would have worked really nicely.

I’m not sure if this is your style or not but if this was mine, I’d create a version of the fitting below using two spider lights in white and fancy bulbs so you end up with a central light fitting. I’ve seen them made with metal frame boxes and planks or branches with greenery which can look nice depending on the style of the room.

Africa2go · 16/02/2023 00:01

I think the light fitting itself is OK but they look odd / don't work because they're in the wrong place (or the table position is wrong). Even if the lights grow on you, the position is all wrong and it would just grate every time i looked at them / we sat at the table. 'd try to sell them I think and get something where even though it's attached to one of the electrical light fixtures, it has a long chord which you can hook to the ceiling so you can position it / centre it over the table.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 16/02/2023 00:42

I think they'll date really badly. Too wacky. Sorry

BreviloquentBastard · 16/02/2023 00:52

I'm afraid I'm not keen at all, they look like hanging spider egg clusters.

Shelley1982 · 16/02/2023 00:55

Thank you everyone!!! So I think they are going to have to go. Luckily, I just realised I am within 30 days so apparently I can return if I have the same packaging it arrived in. Of course I don't have this so have emailed them to ask if I can exchange them and if they can accept without original packaging. I hope they take them!
Appreciate all your helpful responses!

Too pale against those white walls. If walls had a deeper tone/colour to them. They would fit much better but right now, they don't suit. Definitely keep the hanging idea, it's fab over a dining table
