Please can you talk toilets to me?! In particular ones with proper-fitting seats!

We redid our bathroom last year, with a toilet from Victorian Plumbing (who are crap btw). The toilet is fine but the seat doesn't quite stretch to the front edge of the bowl, and it annoys me every single day. I can't bear the feeling of the cold bowl against my legs! Plus it's annoying to clean.

We're about to redo our downstairs loo and looking around the usual showrooms suggests that this deeply annoying gap is standard on modern toilets.

Can anyone recommend me a toilet with a proper fitting seat?

This picture (uploaded by a happy customer on the Wickes website) brings me out in a cold sweat 😱

Can’t help you but I feel your pain. I’m the “proud” owner of a new rimless toilet which doesn’t flush properly and whose lid/seat constantly moves sideways even though I keep tightening the fixings… It does, however, cover the whole bowl (when it’s not migrating to the right). 🤦🏻‍♀️

We have two different brands: a Duravit Happy D.2 and a Volda from Albion. Neither was cheap, but both amazing with sturdy proper-fitting toilet seats

Well thanks for the solidarity anyway! Yes ours also slides around unless tightened regularly. So annoying!

Ooh thanks straygoose! I have to say, though, that your top picture with the lid up would get on my nerves with that tiny sliver of bowl around it. I'm probably beyond help on this, though.

I can't help, I'm just here to join in with the moaning. Toilet seats are incredibly annoying. I've had my flat 6 years there's nothing wrong with the toilet it's perfectly normal-looking and sturdy, but I must have been through 10 or ore fecking seats. Even expensive ones ALWAYS don't quite fit right, crack, go manky (despite cleaning) or come loose over time desoite bold claims that they will never work loose Angry And I don't think it's me, I'm good at DIY and follow the instructions right.

If I wasn't so busy I'd invent the perfect toilet seat and make my fortune!

Just look out for how wide the bottom of the bowl is. My old loo broke and had to get a v swift replacement so just went with plumber advice. The new one has blocked 3 times in the space of a year as the bottom is so narrow. Never happened once with previous unit in years and years.

The best loo that I've ever had is one with a quick-release seat (for cleaning). This is not the one that we have (I'm not actually sure what brand we have) but ours is similar. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/9993035300?pd_rd_i=9993035300&pf_rd_p=2fa5a177-ff58-47c1-b70e-97fbff1ec480&pf_rd_r=WHBVTMBVXNNVGBGFH5WA&pd_rd_wg=aYVQd&pd_rd_w=zDQHY&pd_rd_r=266d1a83-59ea-452d-8127-34a945e0d692&th=1

Having the seat on two posts seems to be much more resilient than having hinges.

I'm guessing you want one like this -
Ours is a Twyfords close coupled toilet with a screw fix replacement seat www.screwfix.com/p/standard-closing-toilet-seat-moulded-wood-white/1056t
It's the one in our downstairs loo (excuse the photo, the room is waiting to be repainted)

Wonkylegs - yes we currently have v similar with a replacement (lovely, sturdy) seat from B&Q. Maybe the answer is that you have to go for that shape of loo. But I like the new, sleeker shapes!

Ours is this one www.twyfordbathrooms.com/products/toilets-bidets-urinals/close-coupled-toilets/alcona-close-coupled-toilet-pan-bo-flushwise/1855/#gref
as we didn't have much choice as we have a bottom outlet rather than the more common wall one but they do both.
It's not ultra modern but it's not old fashioned.
