Hello, does anyone have an Aga in salcombe blue? I can see pictures of the rest of your kitchen please? I love the oven and the colour but struggling to picture the type of kitchen it would fit into. Don’t really want a shaker style kitchen. Thanks!

Ours is slightly darker and slightly bluer.
Walls are painted the same colour, but only about 10% of the wall is visible (due to units/walls/doors). Units are medium wood, counter light wood, wall tiles white, floor terracotta, curtains white.
Previous owners had red walls.

Are you looking to get a while new kitchen?

Yes will be a whole new kitchen at some point. Kitchen is an odd shape and I’m struggling to picture what the layout could be, is it mad to design the kitchen around the cooker?

Not at all mad. I'm not going to post a photo of my kitchen on a public forum, but I do have thoughts on layouts. Do you want to share the shape?
This is based on it being used like a typical aga though, and I think the new electric ones can be used like a conventional oven.

You definitely want a splashback behind it. And hanging pans above is both convenient and a good use of space.
Wooden cooking things want to be stored next to or on it so they dry quickly.
It's one of the few times a washing machine in the kitchen actually makes sense if you're using it for drying clothes, if you're doing that I'd put it opposite it.
Leave floor space in front of it, if not for clothes then for wet shoes, wet dog, it'll be your favourite place to stand in winter.
The counter next to it wants to be heat resistant, or plan to permanently have one of those glass mats there.
Are you allowed it on an internal wall? Obviously not if it's gas/oil but if you can do that.
I think they're deeper than standard cabinets, personally I'd go to the effort of finding somewhere that can provide cupboards the same size.
Don't get a fitted microwave, you might find it's never used.

Thank you, I’ll do a picture tomorrow and share it. Will be an induction aga rather than traditional one.

Here’s the current layout.
room is long and thin with utility room at far end. Want to keep utility for washing machine and tumbler. It also has a WC and space for a pantry.
oven is currently on far wall of kitchen with extractor hood over the top.
sink is in a bay window - suspect a big job to move the sink.
hatched bits are work top with cupboards above and below.
patio doors to the left.
empty wall below fridge has a hatch through to dining room that I want to keep.
I definitely need more work top and cupboard space though. And ideally somewhere to sit and be social while cooking - island currently has bar stools around it but does feel big for size of room.

interested in your thoughts!

Get rid of the island (it looks too wide) and put a long and fairly narrow and possibly extending table in the first part of the kitchen?

Where the island was add a double unit for storage and extra worktop space?

But I'm not a fan of bar stools.

JohnNutLips · 14/11/2022 14:36

Thanks @Mosaic123 not a bar stools fan either really, but we spend so much time in the kitchen that we want to spend time together while cooking. An armchair or sofa would be better but doubt there is room.

I would put the oven where the island is, facing the door, breakfast bar behind it same height/width. Fridge freezer where the oven is, and shelves with remaining space. Units along rhs wall including under hatch. Dishwasher where fridge is it water supply is manag able. Lardercupboard at the bottom. I'd also want the utility door to open into the kitchen.
