Help me decorate and plan furniture for my living room

i’ve just moved into a new bungalow. The living room is L-shaped and faces south and has lots of light from French doors and a separate window.

For some reason, it’s the L-shape that’s stumping me, I can’t seem to visualise colours and furniture arrangement (especially sofas and tv). I’m buying all new so don’t have to worry about trying to make existing furniture fit.

i want the room to be cosy in winter (it has a fireplace) yet making the most of the southerly aspect in summer (French doors).

i would love velvet sofas in a jewel colour but I just don’t know if I should keep the walls a light colour and use colour in the sofas or pale sofas and colour on the walls?

I attach a plan.

all thoughts and ideas welcome.

Pale walls give you lots of scope.
Velvet sofas in jewel colours sounds gorgeous. But you may want to choose carefully for them to suit both winter and summer. Could you have one in a jewel colour, for winter, and a contrasting one that you use in summer, with throws and cushions to cosy it up in winter?

Thanks ICould. I like the idea of having two different coloured sofas and using throws.

i think I’m going to go for pale walls (maybe white tie by Farrow & Ball) and the jewel coloured velvet sofas!

would love ideas on how to place furniture- I can’t get my head around the L-shape!

I think you could go for mustard or orange which velvet which would work for summer or winter. I’d split the room in two. Put a cosy reading space (assuming no small kids) into the bit at the top and make the main bit a social space.

This kind of look with an orange sofa, www.sohohome.com/products/ashford-3-seater-sofa/74570242?gclid=CjwKCAjw7p6aBhBiEiwA83fGusNqlXkIojXMvbPjwear_LsvCFSc1Gt2k_oA-T53vWb183kK-jzshxoCTGYQAvD_BwE or an olive green would work year round in velvet with pale walls and wood.
