Have striped stair carpets had their day?

We think we might go down this route. Will it be really, really dated very soon?

All I meant was not to worry about whether it has selling potential. People will overlook it and budget accordingly. Carpet is quite cheap in the grand scale of buying a house. Just get what you would like to live with!

@LolaStrange we've also done the landing in the stripe, but the living room and all bedrooms are plain. We've made sure the colours of the stripe of the stairs and landing carpet incorporates the tones of the other carpets and wall colours in the rest of the house.

Well there’s ‘what’s in’ and ‘what people buy’ and they don’t always match!
I wanted a striped carpet but didn’t and now my stairs show mess seconds after I’ve hoovered! Kids, pets, fluff….

I've got striped stairs, it's not my cup of tea but it didn't put us off and I admit, it doesn't show dirt, stains etc. much so a good choice.

I went to buy a brightly coloured striped stair carpet and was told by the carpet man that they were out of fashion. The fashionable colours are apparently, beige, grey or greige! I've ordered the brightest one I could find and it's being fitted next week. It's stairs and landing only.

I prefer plain boring Berbers.

What do you do with striped carpets when you get to the top of the stairs?

@TooManyPJs this is what it looks like on the landing.
The carpet fitters make the stripes run in the same direction all the way up the stairs and along the landing. I have no idea how they do this without creating a 'join', but they do!

I had my "out of fashion" striped stair and landing carpet fitted yesterday and love it!

I put a coloured stripe in 12 years ago ( in our old house) wouldn’t do it now. I do like a neutral stripe though.

Nothing dated about stripes.
