Help need with 11 year old’s single bed!

Really looking for some advice/recommendations for a teen boys single bed to fit a small room that actually has quite low ceilings too, so a double whammy! Think mid sleepers might make it look small and high sleepers will not fit but need some storage ( drawers would be good) and maybe a shelf?! I’ve looked at the habitat day but says you need loads of room to build it, so that’s out! Please can someone recommend something useful and stylish?! Is that even possible?! So hoping MN will come up with the answer!

We have this frame on a decent single mattress. It’s on legs so loads of space underneath for storage.

Cookiecrumble22 · 03/03/2022 14:48

This one looks OK.

I would not do a mid sleeper or similar as you said the ceiling is low so probably would not be a good idea also your ds would likely outgrow it quite fast. As In age wise .

2 meters by 3.5 is small but not impossible there's still quite a few options

We all have ottoman beds! They're great for storage!

Ikea hemnes daybed. They really are fine to to build in small spaces and many in box rooms.
You only have to have two thin mattresses if you want to use it as a double, if just normal bed you can use one thick mattress.

Sadly the reviews for the Argos bed are terrible! 😫

Can you fit in a 4ft wide double (I think they are 6ft long)?
An 11 year old boy is going to get another bigger! My DS is 5ft 10 and us still growing. We can't fit a 4ft 6 double bed in but a 4ft double has allowed him to sleep diagonally.

Trixiefirecracker · 04/03/2022 17:35

@MrsMoastyToasty sadly not. We need other furniture in there. Im really tall though (over 6 foot) and fit in a single bed.

My 12yo and I assembled her Ikea bed with drawers in her tiny room. It's really not difficult especially if you have screw fitting on an electric drill.

We built this one.

Check out this NORDLI from IKEA.

As I have said don’t really want an IKEA bed but thank you.

Argos beds are slightly shorter than ikea. My daughters room won't fit an ikea bed.

SilverHairedCat · 05/03/2022 09:32

Have you looked at the ones which are made using Kallax storages cubes (from IKEA, but you're not wrestling a bed!)? Lots of storage that way, easily moved.

Google "ikea Kallax single bed hack" for ideas.

Ottoman beds are what you need, its amazing how much fits underneath them

parietal · 06/03/2022 21:58

futon beds can be very good for small spaces, and you can put a regular mattress on top instead of a futon mattress.

At 2 x 3.5m you can get a small double ottoman and use the rest of the space really well. Our spare room is about the same size and has been used for both dc with a small double in plus other furniture. Could you post the room layout with what else needs to go in there?

Trixiefirecracker · 07/03/2022 21:33

Thank you all! I’ve found a day bed with drawers and a shelf so he has space for a desk and some storage and is not completely cramped. Appreciate all the help.

@Trixiefirecracker do you have a link to the bed you have found? Have just seen this thread and have the same problem with a small bedroom!

Thanks @Trixiefirecracker

Fuzzywuzzyface · 07/03/2022 21:57

That looks lovely but I am echoing a poster further up ... boys just seem to grow and grow - DS15 couldn't sleep comfortably in a single and we bought a 4ft ottoman when his room was decorated last summer. he is now over 6ft and will just keep growing!!

Trixiefirecracker · 07/03/2022 22:38

@Fuzzywuzzyface I’m over 6 foot and always slept in a single bed until I left home. No problem. Think we are all so comfortably off in the West that we assume children need all this space and huge beds but sometimes it’s just not possible! I think he’ll survive. 😁

My dh is over 6foot and sleeps in a single when dc are ill and come in our bed. It’s fine. He also manages to stay his side of the bed when we sleep without taking up the whole thing so no idea why tall teen dc on this thread must have a double… I think they’re trying it on! Grin
