Which sofa?

I'd really appreciate any thoughts you have on these sofa choices. As per the name I am fairly useless when it comes to interior decoration and in fact this is the first sofa I'm buying! I can't say I have a specific, defined style but generally I prefer a minimalist look but I also live in a Victorian (terrace style) home so I feel I should also nod to that. I've been told I have a mid-century style Grin

I'm looking to buy a sofa for our bay window. It's a fairly narrow one, so the sofa needs to have a fairly small footprint. Ideally I'd be looking to spend around £400 but I'm worried that this is too cheap and it won't be a solid long-lasting piece. These are the ones I've shortlisted - considerably over the target budget but I do feel it's worth spending more if it will be a better quality product and tick all the boxes.

Oliver Bonas luna love seat
I've not managed to view this in person and sit on it which is putting me off. I'm not sure there is enough of a seat back to be able to sit comfortable and have sufficient back support. Delivery time is 2-4 weeks which is ok. I'm fairly boring so was thinking of the light blue which will match the mid-blue curtains behind it. On the other hand I'm tempted to be a bit bolder and get the dusty pink, which sounds lovely. I do have young children but they're generally ok with not getting furnishings mucky (I may live to regret saying this).

Sofa Workshop 2-seater
Delivery time is 18 weeks!! Not really happy about waiting that long but otherwise I've managed to see it in person and it feels comfortable and satisfies our requirements. The original price seems very high? Not sure if this is indicative of quality or just over-pricing.

Any thoughts?? Or other suggestions?

Happy to share some more furniture outlets. There’s so many customer returns on sofas, with no damage or a slight scuff in the velvet which is likely to happen anyway. I’m always loathe to pay full price or even ‘sales’ prices

Trade Outlet mainly stock Loaf, John Lewis and some M&S trade-secret.co.uk/

Joseph James have Next and some Sofa Workshop www.josephjamesfurnitureoutlet.com/

Shaw Spencer Furniture have loads of made.com. No website but regular updates on their Facebook

Sofa workshop looks far more comfortable and a bit more timeless.
The Oliver bonas one might date pretty quickly.
We bought our sofa from sofa sofa and thought the customer service/delivery was excellent.

Oo I just did this OP! Such a pain finding something to fit a bay window.

If you go to Wayfair website, you can adjust their filter to search by your maximum and minimum dimensions, I found this very helpful.

I actually chose one (twingle) from the futon company in the end though because a friend had it and I knew it was comfy.

Also if it fits for you Ikea has some very comfy sofas…

I wouldn’t spend more than £600 as there is good stuff under that.

This is so helpful- thank you!

Do you know of any more by any chance?

nothingcomestonothing · 12/02/2022 12:35

Shaw Spencer have got a 15% off Made.com flash sale on today.

MarjoryTub · 12/02/2022 12:42

Thank you. These places look perfect, just a bit too far.
Any in the midlands that you know of?

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 12/02/2022 12:47

Does it have to have legs?
The ones you posted don’t look comfortable.

What are the dimensions ?
I got a lovely two seater willow and hall sofa that’s also a sofa bed. It’s very comfortable to sit and relax on or even lie down on too

Chasingsquirrels · 12/02/2022 12:55

Are Spencer Shaw all over, or just the Burwell warehouse?

LauraJayne15 · 12/02/2022 14:31

Just the Burrell warehouse. They had loads of stock when I’ve visited in the past and can deliver anywhere for reasonable cost. Obviously it’s sold as seen so you’d want to ask about any damage or marks

LauraJayne15 · 12/02/2022 14:31

Burwell not Burrell*

Ahh Trade Secret used to be midlands but they closed the Coventry shop.

There’s Home Outlet in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. www.homeoutlets.co.uk/

Trying to think of any others. If you’re East Mids there’s lots of small outlets at the sofa manufacturers around Long Eaton.

Yeah, I've been a few times - live nearby. Just surprised to see it mentioned and wondered if it was national!

Really? They look perfectly comfortable to me. Love the Sofa Workshop one in particular, like a Danish MCM sofa.

Couldn’t see myself curled up with a blanket staving off period cramps on one of them Grin I like softer sofas albeit with a decent bit of back support

Homebase have that style sofa.
If it's for occasional use might be worth a trip to Homebase.

Very cheap, on sale but comfortable.

Thanks everyone for your advice. At times I honestly thought I'd never make a decision and get this sorted but I got there in the end! I bought the Made.com orson sofa in ink blue velvet and I love it! I was eyeing it up but it felt too expensive, and then it went out of stock! However someone was selling it on Ebay so I took a bit of a risk and bought it for 2/3 of the price and I love it! It was bigger than I'd originally planned for and I was quite nervous about it fitting and looking ok but it's been fine and looks nice and cosy Smile

Sofa Workshop image two is absolutely gorgeous
I know you want blue though 😂

Ragwort · 28/02/2022 14:47

Love your final choice - and great to get it a good price Smile.
