Opposing styles

Does anyone have a love of opposing styles and therefore finds it impossible to have a home you love?
So for example, I’m a huge fan of gothic, dark and cosy interiors similar to ahern but no sooner have I painted my walls like this, I suddenly can’t stand them and want it all to look light and airy and filled with things from Anthropologie, swoon and Oliver bonas and get redecorating again.

I’ve tried to mix them but it looks dreadful and it makes me so unhappy that I can’t ever settle on a style I’m happy in.

Everyone says “make mood boards and find a style you love” but my issue is I love a lot of things and it doesn’t look cool and quirky altogether.

Anyone else like this at all?

Arghhh I think I know what you mean! Could you have different vibes in different rooms? Take advantage of which rooms are naturally light for an airier feel, and then dark and cosy in the rooms you will prefer to hunker up in most?

That’s a lovely idea thank you!
I’m starting to think there’s some mental deficiency somewhere with me because I’m never happy 🤣 but actually doing that could be a good idea. Hopefully I won’t change my mind then xx

I also happen to think those dark dramatic colours could work nicely with some of the anthro aesthetic...

Did you actually make a mood board?
Like pp says, can you use the dark colours but without the gothic vibe?
Keep going with the mood board and mixing and matching, or at least narrow down your all time favourites and do separate rooms. I’ve never done a mood board, am really nosy about how you’ve gone about it!

I am similar and have just kept each room very different, so they I can have things I love in my house without it all clashing!
