soap options for small cloakroom sink - not wall mounted

Hi, I have a small rectangle cloakroom sink. It's awkward to find a soap dispenser to sit comfortably by the tap. I don't want to mount anything on the wall, has anyone come across a decent option of either a refillable dispenser or soap brand that is small enough? The available spot is about 6.5 x 7cms but can't be too tall as the room is quite narrow and folk then knock it off when passing. TIA.

I'll add a photo if I can get it to work.

This might help show what I mean, normal stick on hooks etc won't grip to the tiles and there is no gap really between the tiles and mirror and to the side of the mirror isn't over the sink so the floor would get wet/soapy.

I bought a sticky dish and a sticky loo paper holder so I didn’t need to drill. If you go down sticky route buy a good brand as cheap ones will fall off really easily. Sorry I can’t remember which brand I went for but if you google people in DIY forums will recommend ones…

We have a tiny cloakroom sink and the only liquid soap that fits well is the Aldi Hotel collection bottle. I would prefer to use a bar for environment reasons, so am hoping that we can move to that when we have our cloakroom redone - it was last done in the 1970s, so due a refit!

Thinking very much out of the box, could you get a soap on a rope, add an extension cord and put a hook into the ceiling? Have it long enough so that it hangs right above, and in the centre of the sink?

I’m trying to imagine that, soap hanging from the ceiling above the sink 😂😂😂

I’d agree with the pp, you need to buy th good quality stick on things, I have a stick on towel rail on matt tiles ans it’s immovable. A cheaper one would have fallen off

Elouera · 04/08/2021 10:41

The OP said she wants nothing at all mounted to the wall, so this is what I was suggesting, just from the ceiling instead!!! Grin

I've got this soap dish in my tiny sink. I use travel soaps.

Would this work?

Blastandbollocks · 04/08/2021 11:17

Ignore that, too wide.

MotionActivatedDog · 04/08/2021 11:17

This is probably a really stupid question, but what’s wrong with the soap you have on the sink in the photo?

BridgeOfLies · 04/08/2021 11:19

Just get a soap dish and a bar of soap. Liquid soap plastic waste is so easy to eliminate.

@ElephantOfRisk

Thanks for the suggestions folks, not against a bar of soap but can't find anything small enough to have as a dish and don't want to just use bar straight on the sink, and yes the tall thin round dispensers do fit but because it's narrow they keep getting knocked onto the floor and broken, if I could find something shorter it would be more stable and less likely to get bumped. Mirror with shelf might have been a good option but we have already fitted a mirror.

Wall mounted would be ideal but don't want to drill into the tiles and the mirror is immediately above and also its quite high up. Tiler had to cover up end of plaster board which needed to be replaced when the old tiles came off so probably a bit higher than normal.

It really is a bit of a pain.

Thanks for all the ideas though.

Use 3M tape. That’s what I do as I don’t want to drill into tile

My mum has this same set up downstairs, she gets a hand wash from Waitrose which is in a tallish, slimish bottle so sits comfortably where your one is now!

It's just really awkward to use and I can't put it to the front part as it's too big and gets knocked off, still gets knocked occasionally at the back and I also can't have the spout to the front as when you press on it it just launches itself into the sink. I mean, it's not a major life issue but it's just one of those minor annoyances that just gets to you every so often.

I definitely can't sucker anything to the tiles - as well as being matt, they are textured a bit like stone so you can't get a proper adhesion - regardless of the quality. I've not really tried adhesive as in my head it will probably be just as likely to damage the tiles either through discolouration or just not holding it and then falling off and being left with sticky marks.

I'm not adverse to just a dish but it needs to either be small enough to stick to that small bit of the sink or sufficiently sturdy to not move. guest sized soaps are easy come by so that isn't an issue. I cant stick anything inside the sink as it's barely big enough to wash your hands in as it is. I refill the soap bottles I have but sometimes the spouts are broken from when it's been knocked over.

I'm looking at all your ideas and i'm sure something will work out, so thanks again.

The tall round ones do fit but as they are tall they aren't that stable and get knocked off or slip off when being used. So ideally a shorter version of those would be good. The aldi ones look shorter so might give that a go, i'll take a drive out and take a look.
