I was just wondering if you booked a company to come out to do a flooring home visit what would you expect?

I've never had a home visit for flooring. I go to the showroom (karndean or a carpet showroom) then I choose 3 or 4 samples I think will work and take them home and put them on the floor for up to a week to see what I like best and then I go back and order the one I want.

They then come out to fit it a few weeks later and that's the only time they come to the house

Someone to come out and measure, discuss any pitfalls or considerations particular to my home, if I want doorbars, if I’m wanting skirtings removed and refixed, discuss my requirements for the flooring such as if it needs to be water resistant or suitable for refinishing, etc.

Recently replaced flooring in our kitchen and utility - installed engineered wood with lacquer finish. As the kitchen was being redone just before the floor the fitters came round, measured up, brought samples, and discussed what we wanted and checked any tricky bits. They also phoned the kitchen fitters and had a chat about a number of technical things that I didn’t get involved in.

A visit to chat about your requirements, measuring up, advice on what would work best, and perhaps a look at samples.

Thanks all, just had a very poor experience and wanted to clarify in my head that they don't deserve my business and money.
And that's without mentioning the fact that he spoke over me to talk to my husband as the "little lady" obviously didn't deserve a say or opinion in anything! Fuming! 😡

I'd get another couple of quotes if I were you. Flooring it all about the quality of the fitting. You want an expert with attention to detail bordering on the obsessive.

We recently had a very similar experience with people coming round to price for shutters.

One was just so rude! Late to the appointment, treated us like we should be grateful he turned up, argued that we couldn't have what we wanted, although 2 other high reputable fitters had already quoted for exactly that. I asked him to leave in the end because of his attitude.

The two others were completely different, very polite and professional, but the one we went with was obviously a real expert in his field, a perfectionist and a complete 'geek' about his trade. He has loads of pictures of work he had done and had obvious pride in the quality of his work.

It was a no-brainier as to who got the job, prices were comparable but it was clear where the quality job would come from.

@ChequerBoard thank you.
I was beginning to think that it was me expecting too much. Customer service at its worst!
