I love some of the stuff they sell but I wouldn't buy anything from there. I was looking for a mid century armchair today. Saw this www.styleourhome.com/humber-armchair-dark-grey then saw, what looks like the same chair on Cox and Cox www.coxandcox.co.uk/new-mid-century-armchair-linen/]] Shock

Does ANYONE buy from there full price?!

I couldn't view the second link - it seems to think I may be a hacker (I'm not, by the way)
But in answer to your question, probably not.

gardeninggirl68 · 26/07/2021 15:14

Never seen such an ugly chair! Like a solicitors waiting room chair

GloriousGoosebumps · 26/07/2021 17:04

It is the same chair, of course. What a timely reminder that it pays to shop around. I suspect that Cox and Cox would justify the extra £207.25 on the basis that they're not forcing us to buy from them, which is true, but it does feel as though big business just thinks we're hear to be fleeced!

SureBorisKnowsWhatHesDoingNOT · 26/07/2021 17:12

@GloriousGoosebumps yep, definitely! They are particularly bad for that though. Google reverse image is your friend if you are shopping at cox and cox and see something you like!

@gardeninggirl68 I quite like it Grin

I sent for 2 shelving units from cox and cox. They were pretty expensive ( and delivered at 6 am ) . When I opened up the boxes the finish was terrible . They were more like something you would use in your garden than your house. So I returned them.
Problem was - they charged £60 for delivery and £ 60 for the return .I hadn’t been able to return them with the people who delivered cos I didn’t want to wake everyone else in the house by opening them up for inspection at 6 am.
I saw the same shelving unit later in John Lewis for £125 cheaper and free delivery .
So despite the lovely website I would never buy from them again

Scarby9 · 26/07/2021 17:24

It thinks I'm a security risk too! How good is the armchair?!

Me too - I was blocked!!
Oddbutnotodd · 26/07/2021 17:45

I’ve been blocked too from that link. Chair isn’t on website either - opened a different tab.

Screenshot of the website of those too dangerous to look at it 😉

I'm guessing that the Taliban favour these chairs and some of us unfortunates have been scooped up in some CIA filtering...

SureBorisKnowsWhatHesDoingNOT · 26/07/2021 20:24

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles sounds like the most reasonable
explanation.

Oh !!! My mum has that chair. I had no idea where she got it. She can to my house and saw my (in my opinion) much nicer £99 aldi chair and wanted similar. I've always disliked her chair.

This is my cheap version that she wanted to copy.

SureBorisKnowsWhatHesDoingNOT · 27/07/2021 08:09

I hope she didn’t get it from Cox and Cox!!

If it helps, then if you return the entire order then they have to refund the initial delivery cost, as long as you hadn't paid extra for eg special delivery www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/i-want-to-return-something-bought-online-aqsD32m9r5P3#can-i-get-delivery-costs-refunded
BocolateChiscuits · 27/07/2021 10:08

A link that works: www.coxandcox.co.uk/new-mid-century-armchair-linen/

(I just removed the stuff after the question mark after the url - I think it's checking that the token in there matches your session or similar to prevent hacking attacks - hence why it thinks we're hackers when we use it.)

QueenAdreena · 27/07/2021 10:12

I ordered some sale items from Cox & Cox last year. Was happy to allow for the fact that Covid was slowing deliveries down, but after waiting three bloody months for my items I started to get a bit pissed off. Customer service was shoddy and it took an age to get it all sorted. Would never use them again.

mavornia · 27/07/2021 17:20

I just bought a desk for £360 that Cox & Cox is selling for £625

RunnerDown · 27/07/2021 21:45

@Reallybadidea
Thanks. Will know in future

NoSquirrels · 30/07/2021 20:25

I have long suspected that they’re a front for something. Grin Their business model is so outrageous it’s a wonder they’re still going!

Zinnia · 31/07/2021 01:29

I've had good experiences buying from Cox & Cox but their business model is definitely based on their always-available 20% discount (sometimes more). They send out lots of paper catalogues, do their own styling and shooting etc, so higher overheads than an online-only business using the manufacturer's stock photography. FWIW I like the chair though I'd prefer it not in grey Smile.

Dogslog · 31/07/2021 01:34

Brand alley makes them better value but we love the catalogue and comedy of it coming through our letterbox!

LesLavandes · 31/07/2021 01:39

So disappointed to hear this. I will be removing them from the subscriber list

tywysoges · 31/07/2021 01:56

Ooh I have a similar one from Ikea that cost 1/3 of that price (and my cat destroyed the back of it, so I’m happy it was not pricey Grin)

I have the same Ikea chair and it's very comfortable.
