Is this nice or naff

I'm (hopefully) moving to my forever home soon. I've decided that I'd like to get some decent crockery. I've been living with Mia matched plates and cups for years. My dc are now of an age I don't have to have Peppa Pig cups and plastic plates.

I've seen these and LOVE them, but are they more 'grandma' and I'm kidding myself that they are somehow trendy?

I don't like them personally, but I don't think they're naff.

Agree with PP's, I bet your tea will taste lovely out of them!

Sexnotgender · 25/06/2021 13:44

They’re not naff but they’re not my taste.

BrilliantBetty · 25/06/2021 13:51

I like them. My husband would hate them.

Dishwasher friendly might be an idea though, if using them regularly.

I love looking at all the mugs in John Lewis

bigbaggyeyes · 25/06/2021 13:56

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to agree with the posters who have said 'if you love them, buy them' Grin

I've not got a dishwasher so no problem there either

Yay! Enjoy them.
Mine's a Darjeeling Smile

ChateauMargaux · 25/06/2021 14:05

I think they are bloody lovely... with the possible slight problem that I don't like print inside a tea cup.

RampantIvy · 25/06/2021 14:18

I think they are very pretty. However, I wouldn't buy anything that can't go in the microwave or dishwasher.

stuntfarter · 25/06/2021 14:21

Not to my taste as they are too fancy for me but if I went to a friends and they had them I would enjoy them enjoying them iyswim

YoComoManzanas · 25/06/2021 14:23

They're not my cup of tea at all. But if you like them and all others in the household like them, then each to their own.

GiantKitten · 25/06/2021 14:24

It really doesn’t matter what we think!
If you like them, that’s the most important thing Smile

Blimey, hadn’t clocked the price! Extra sorrow for a break! Grin

Personally speaking I think there are nicer sets on this website (I'm not affiliated to it but I do browse every so often) and even with shipping to the UK it would work out cheaper than the set you have linked to in your opening post @bigbaggyeyes:

Pogostemon · 25/06/2021 14:33

I don’t like them much, myself - they have a shabby-chic-on-purpose quality that I find a bit forced (and a bit old-hat). But why care what I think?

If you love them, get them.

ginghamtablecloths · 25/06/2021 14:45

The ones shown on the front page are beautiful IMHO and if you like them don't worry about other people's opinions. They can pick their own mugs.

MrsMcTats · 25/06/2021 14:49

If you like that style may I suggest looking at Pip Studio. Similar styling, lower price.

Grazka · 25/06/2021 14:53

They are beautiful but you shouldn't worry what others think about them, all that matters is if you like them :)

ScribblyBaller · 25/06/2021 14:58

At that price I'd be fuming if I broke one.

I prefer something chunkier and plainer but with home decor you should always please yourself!

notthemum · 25/06/2021 14:59

They definitely wouldn't do for me. Sorry. To me they are completely mis matched and at that price. Jeez.
Still each to their own. If you want them, have them.

Stickytreacle · 25/06/2021 15:34

I'd choose practical for everday, yoh can get nice china mugs that will go in the dishwasher etc, and buy yourself a tea set for special occasions

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 25/06/2021 15:46

I think the combination of the mug style and granny-type print actually makes them look quite modern. That said, I'm not keen on them, if only because of the need to hand wash.

Also - a set of 5 mugs? This distresses me! It needs to be an even number, surely?

Backthewaywecame · 25/06/2021 15:49

I think they’re lovely. They’re nothing like anything I’ve got but I would appreciate them if I had them.

CorvusPurpureus · 25/06/2021 15:54

I like them - again despite them not being my usual style.

Given the price, though, I think I'd be trawling charity shops for eclectic floral mugs I don't mind breaking instead - however if it's important to you that they're visually a 'set' then go for it.

Actually in that case personally I'd buy two sets so at least I had pairs...but then if I broke one the other would be lonely...
