How much was your bed?

I bought mine 6-ish years ago from IKEA. Double. Cheapest frame and cheapest mattress. I think it was about £300 all in at the time, including a chest if drawers?!

It has served me well but we could definitely do with an upgrade: literally a bigger bed but also a better quality one.

Some prices have almost made my eyes fall out of my head, so I think I need to marinate on the price for a little while to get used to it.

It almost certainly has to be a divan to fit in my shall bedroom.

One bed in John Lewis was £7000... I'm hoping that your king size bed was a bit cheaper than a car?

Our mattress is an igel from Bensons, it is marvellous.
And we got our frame from a place where we bought our original bed from 20 plus years ago. We went back because we couldn't find anything we liked. Taurus Beds is Finchley.

At both placed you can make custom alterations (colour of frame, length etc). Had my new bed a year, now. Love it.

We bought hypnos as we liked beds in Premier inns. Got super king. Fabulous and comfortable. Think it cost around £1,100 but was about 5 years ago so could be wrong. Best thing we did, although when we stay at places with a double we struggle with space 😂

To answer your question, I would recommend an ottoman bed @OrangeIsNeutral
It’s amazing the amount of crap you can store in them. And it’s easier to get to everything rather than scrabbling about under a normal bed or trying to get to the back of a shallow under bed drawer.
I don’t like the look at divan beds so it was an easy choice for us.
I see another poster has had issues with their Otty mattress but we have been happy with ours.

Another one for Button & Sprung here, we got the storage drawers so I think it was about £1300 for a king divan. It’s so much more comfortable than our old slatted bed frame even with our crappy Eve mattress. That’s next on the list to replace

Lookdeepintotheparka · 24/06/2021 22:14

Ours is a 20 year old Benson's divan which cost less than £200!! Headboard was store damaged and cost us £50 at the time - think it's definitely time we upgraded both Grin

On our third mattress and currently have an Emma original which we both like. Had to get the soft topper for it though as was hard as nails without it!

JellyBabiesFan · 24/06/2021 22:27

What do you mean better quality? A bed serves to support the mattress. As long as the bed is not wobbly what do you expect to be different?

The mattress is where you need to be spending the big bucks.

From John Lewis:
Super king size bed frame with comfy tall back rest £800
Natural collection wool mattress, just under £2,000. (Inc 20% off in a sale)

This was 4 years ago and our wedding present to ourselves. Worth every penny. Like sleeping on a cloud.

NB this was an upgrade from an elderly cheap double with knackered mattress and the difference in space and comfort is astonishing.

The bed frame is about 15 years old, a metal one from M&S. If memory serves, I think it was about £500. It certainly wasn't any more than that, I couldn't have afforded it if it was! We've been considering changing it, because it does look a bit battered in places and we'd prefer the foot to be a bit lower, but it's all superficial, so I might just see if I can get it resprayed.

Mattress is an Eve one, a Kingsize Original Hybrid. I think we also paid about £500 for that, but it was heavily discounted - some sort of special deal, and I found a voucher online somewhere for an extra £50 off. I wasn't convinced about it (I wanted a super-luxe spendy sprung one costing thousands), but the deal was so good, DH promised we could change it if I didn't get on with it. And lo and behold, I absolutely love it. They're on sale again at the moment, as it happens.

But don't tell DH that he was right, OK?

Agree with those who mentioned ottoman beds.

Great for storage.

I got mine from this place.

Really impressed with their quality . I paid half the price from what I paid for my previous bed and the quality is so much better.

Even got the kids Ottoman singles. Great to store their endless clutter.

It said out of stock and they didnt advertise their single bed ottomans but when I emailed them they were happy to make it.
I think it is a small UK company rather than imported.

I dont think the original link worked.

It was about £1500. It's one thing I never skimp on. Normally have a divan base, but have gone for an ottoman for our new one this time. Sealy hybrid for the 3rd time. Wouldn't have anything else.

Cosmos123 · 27/06/2021 06:19

Here is the pic of one of the single ottoman been made to order in the fabric we chose

Honestly I was so impressed by this little company.
They never had them in stock but the chap said he would make it for us as everything is handmade by them.
The quality the price and service were fantastic for what we got.

Bed frame around 250 from made.com in the sale (nice sturdy low platform bed) it's much more solid than previous ikea one we had- and mattress from Otty which we love ❤️

Arbadacarba · 27/06/2021 08:38

The bed frame I got 2nd hand for about £100 - it's an 'And So To Bed' cast iron one that would have cost about £1500 new. I found an end of stock Hypnos mattress on eBay for £150 so £250.

EmmaJR1 · 27/06/2021 08:53

Dreams, 3 years ago.

KS divan with 4 drawers and a super comfy latex memory foam mattress and 2 latex memory foam pillows was £2700.

It is literally the BEST BED EVER!
