I love f and b . I am utterlty convinced that the pigment is sort of deeper and I really enjoy it as the light changes.
Dh thinks it is a middle class emporers clothes and a con. He spoke to his decorator mate who says f and b is actually no goos at all . .. and that it is just for people with no sense who want to be seen to spend money on paint.
He prefers valspa .
When ever we decorate my dh resists f and b and laughs at my desire for it and enjoyment .
Any other devotees or otherwise.. if it is so expensive , why is it seen as no good by quite a few folk ???

Decorators hate using it, and the man who sprayed my kitchen cabinets refuses to use it after a few bad experiences. He'll colour match, but will not do F&B paint.

It's a con. The decent F&B colour match paints look no different.

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2021 19:46

I'm with your DH. It's all marketing to make it seem aspirational and desirable. I've heard it's a pain to apply and that puts me off more than anything. Gorgeous colours though.

I've got good old Dulux in my living room and I love watching it change with the light. It's not just F&B that has that effect.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 21/03/2021 19:48

All colours look different depending on the light. F&B just have more effective marketing, making people think it's a special feature of their paint.

GloveFromAbove · 21/03/2021 19:49

Every decorator I’ve used hates it. One wouldn’t put it on because he said it was a pain to apply. I’d colour match elsewhere. Most decorators rate Johnstone’s.

MarshaBradyo · 21/03/2021 19:50

I’m for F&B

I like the finish and colours obvs but people match those

I still prefer the original version

nancy75 · 21/03/2021 19:54

My dad said it’s overpriced rubbish, he has a company that has decorated almost every 5* hotel in London in the last 40 years, so I trust his opinion on this!

tilder · 21/03/2021 19:55

I won't use it because it doesn't suit our house. We have to use a specialist paint, very environmentally friendly. Fabulous colours. Ultra matt. Thick paint, covers brilliantly. Washable and I can bleach the damp spots without affecting the paint.

Cheaper than F&B.

Even if I had a house suitable for F&B I wouldn't use it. Beautiful colours, shit paint. Other better cheaper paints are available all with beautiful colours.

HarrietOh · 21/03/2021 19:55

My decorator colour matches it with Johnstone’s - I know most won’t work with it!

tilder · 21/03/2021 19:58

Every paint changes colour as the light changes. It's normal. Beautiful to see and means some colours will never look 'right' in some rooms.

Chihuahuacat · 21/03/2021 19:58

We bought it and it was an absolute nightmare to paint with. We did the other rooms using Little Greene which I would really recommend

Jeeperscreeper · 21/03/2021 19:58

Tilder. What do you use ? Sounds intresting! .

Johnstones do a colour match for F&B. Go to your local trade paint store.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 21/03/2021 20:13

When I say they colour match F&B - thus applies to all the colours. I have colour matched skylight, skimming stone, vardo and wevet in our house.

MadameKali · 21/03/2021 20:20

F&B is a nightmare to paint with. Marketing over substance. Valspar every time for me.

DavidsSchitt · 21/03/2021 20:36

Our decorator uses johnstones colour match.

LarsErickssong · 21/03/2021 20:44

I know a couple of decorators and both of them hate it. They both recommend Johnstone's first and foremost but are also happy to use dulux/valspar

EnglishRain · 21/03/2021 20:48

I love it. Decorator also rates it. Said it takes more effort that some of the cheaper paints you can slap on, which is why lots of decorators don't rate it as it makes life harder for them. No idea how true that is, but I've found it sometimes takes three thin costs to get good coverage with F&B but when it's done it looks wonderful. I've got a wipe down Homebase paint in the kitchen which only needed one and a bit coats, but it hasn't worn anywhere near as well. I've got dogs and the F&B seems to cope being wiped down more than the Homebase one.

tilder · 21/03/2021 20:48

Johnstone colour match is great. I use it on modern surfaces.

I would recommend Little Greene and Earthborn.

I just re-read my posts. Sounds like I work for one of themBlush. I don't.

EnglishRain · 21/03/2021 20:49

@Jeeperscreeper I've got Mizzle in the dining room, it's gorgeous...

Tal45 · 21/03/2021 20:58

I bought some F and B and Dulux testers, the dulux went on more nicely and the colours were better. I think F and B is seen as upmarket paint and that's why people fork out for it.

TheCovidHalfStone · 21/03/2021 21:14

I love it, I agree it has a different kind of depth too it, it seems chalkier to me. And I also really enjoy painting with it, I think because it’s thinner. I also like Little Greene.

Jeeperscreeper · 21/03/2021 21:26

English rain.. thats quite appropriate for your name .. liking mizzle ( which is so lovely isnt it ? ) as i think mizzle means mist and drizzle!

I’ve just painted a room in f&b brinjal. I love it. It took 3 coats (over white) but it went on fine and looks amazing.

I’ve used Little Green in DD2’s room. The dark feature wall took two coats (over white) and looks great, the other three walls are cream and they didn’t cover the pale pink underneath properly. They really need a third coat.

DD1’s room is either Dulux or Crown, probably one of the easy care ones (can’t remember). The dark wall marks with every scuff in a way the Little Green and F&B paint doesn’t. Also it has a nasty shiny finish that I really dislike.
