Which material do you think looks best against this paint colour?

I think the second one looks best. I can imagine the colour and the fabric looking lovely in a cosy cottage but not so good in a modern house.

minipie · 08/02/2021 09:21

I think the 2nd is classic (traditional country house style) rather than dated. It’s Arts and Crafts style. Yes there was a revival of this style in the 70s, so perhaps that’s why some are saying dated, but there’s another revival of it happening now and there will no doubt be more in future. It’s a bit like saying Victorian style tiles or parquet floors are dated...

Agree
To me the "painterly" first print is more dated than the second.

I love parquet floor!

The 2nd is a better match but very old fashioned looking . I’d keep looking for something different .

Maybemay123 · 08/02/2021 09:54

2nd.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/02/2021 09:57

2nd.

It's a better match & a nicer fabric. Less dated.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 08/02/2021 09:57

2nd one, perfect colour match and I think it's classic rather than dated.

Spied · 08/02/2021 10:00

Second looks lovely.
First fabric looks cheap to me sorry

morninglive · 08/02/2021 10:09

2nd if the paint is as dark as it looks in the pic. You need contrast in tone as well as hue. The 1st is very samey

Cissyandflora · 08/02/2021 10:13

The second. It’s lovely.

BasiliskStare · 08/02/2021 10:13

Gosh - I'd say first. 2nd looks a slapped it up because there is something which goes somewhere in there.

Thanks for your brutal honestly but it was actually well thought out, I guess you can't see the room as a whole. We have some pink aspects to the room as well.

The 2nd looks better, I think the 1st makes everything look sludgy.

Agree that the 2nd is classic not dated.

BasiliskStare · 08/02/2021 11:00

@Incrya I am so sorry because when you posted my post - I realised it sounded brutal. & yes I could only see a couple of small photographs.

I apologise without reservation

Ah - if the second one gets more of the rest of the room then to be honest I think both fabrics are nice but I could not see the pink bits in the rest of the room.

I feel really embarrassed now. I still like the first one more than the second ( based on those photos ) but not choosing on full facts.

Oh I feel somewhat dreadful now - they are both lovely . To be honest if you have spent this much time choosing - I would bet a shilling to a butt of malmsey you will have made the right choice ,

Exit one embarrassed Basilisk - but chucking all best wishes your way Flowers

The second one isn't dated, it's slightly ahead of the curve - Victorian William MOrris-y stuff is coming back. It's much nicer anyway - the first one is a bit Next

JaninaDuszejko · 08/02/2021 11:52

Choose the fabric you like best then choose a paint to match that.

FlamingGreatGalaahs · 08/02/2021 20:24

First!

Redsquirrel5 · 08/02/2021 20:37

The second one brings the colour out more.Is it a Morris design?

Yes, Strawberry Thief.

I don't think either of them work very well with that paint colour - sorry.

Bouledeneige · 09/02/2021 23:22

I think the second matches the colour tones better but I'm keener on the design of the first one.

FuzyWuzyWozABear · 09/02/2021 23:26

2nd looks better because it gives more of a contrast yet also picks out the paint colour
