Navy wall - F&B?!

We want to paint a feature wall in our open plan area and want to go with a navy colour.

The room is quite big (a new build apartment, if helpful), though is a rectangle (30'2" x 14'8").

It has floor to ceiling windows on one wall (a shorter 14" end) and no windows in the rest of the room.

We want one feature wall. This will be half of one of the longer sides (one of the longer walls is broken up by a doorway out into the hallway. This doorway separates the living area from the kitchen area. We want to paint a feature wall on the part of the long wall that comprises the living area).

So far all the walls are (new build) white. Our furniture is bluey/grey, different wood tones, quite earthy. The feature wall will be perpendicular to the wall with the big windows.

We've seen F&B Stiffkey and F&B and F&B Hague. Which one is better?

Also people on B&Q reviews don't seem to rate the quality of F&B - what other navy paints are good, and what other products (primers etc) will we need?!

Thanks Smile

Hague Blue all the way, I have it as a feature in my living room too. I tried a tester for Sapphire Salute and you really can’t compare the two. You also don’t get the same complexity or depth of colour with colour matched paints in my experience.

Also I’m a total amateur decorator but never had any problems using F&B!

Van Deusen - Stiffkey - Hague Blue

I really rate Craig and Rose paint from Homebase. We used Payne’s Grey for this wall

@NotMaryWhitehouse yes, I have Sapphire Salute on a feature wall in my hallway - if you so much as brush against it, it leaves an almost chalky residue? No idea how to solve it!!

When my mum was in hospital we redecorated her living room as she had to have her bed in there. We painted one wall Dulux Sapphire Salute and put up matching velvet curtains and lampshades, with a mustard yellow chair and footstool and bedding. She totally loves it.

Misty9 · 17/01/2021 11:20

My wall of sapphire salute is behind furniture so never gets touched really. It's also the durable and washable one. I have got a bedroom of teal tension though and that marks like buggery!

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 17/01/2021 12:34

Neither. LG Deep Space Blue or Hicks Blue.

Interesting to read that Dulux Sapphire Salute marks. We have Dulux Breton Blue above the dado in the downstairs loo but even in a low-traffic area it has marked. In comparison we have LG Deep Space Blue in DD’s bedroom and it is bombproof.

Yes!!! God it's annoying. We thought we'd need two whole tins with it being such a dark colour, but we only used one and a bit....at least we have plenty for touch ups! 😂

NavyFlask · 17/01/2021 13:28

We used sapphire salute, but no marking as it was on a ceiling. It just had a warmth and depth that the others I tried didn't.

FenellaVelour · 17/01/2021 22:44

We used a lot of Dulux Trade paint when we first moved in, and I’ve found most of the bold colours mark really badly. I’ve switched to using Graham & Brown paint for the last three rooms we’ve painted, much better.

MovinOnUp · 17/01/2021 23:04

I've just ordered sapphire salute for my son's room.
I've ordered the kitchen version so that it's wipeable.

ostrom · 18/01/2021 12:34

I've just painted the dining room feature wall with sapphire salute. No problems with marking but again went for the durable and washable one.

I have a whole wall in Hague Blue and couldn't love it more. The way the colour adapts to the light around it is fabulous.

Four coats to cover white using Plimsoll for me recently, but the end result is delicious. Bitter dark blue black, just lovely. But I used it on furniture, think it would be too much even if you lived in Versailles for a living space.

colette100 · 19/01/2021 21:22

Plimsoll is probably my fave navy blue. It really does have depth.
It’s a perfect foil for brightly coloured accessories/ art work / decor

Have just done my hall. It's Valspar Moroccan Resort, with added glitter at the request of DH!

We have used little greene hicks blue and it’s a lovely colour, more richness to it than Hague blue which we had been planning to use.

Supersimkin2 · 20/01/2021 08:09

OOOO, @colette100 that's glorious.

Brilliant idea.

colette100 · 20/01/2021 08:46

@Supersimkin2 😆
It holds up in a school corridor - so it’s got to be tough!

We have sapphire salute on our chimney walk in the living room, we love it, no marks but we did use the tough version. The rest of the room is rock salt & it goes so well despite a dark wall the room is light & fresh.
