What do you think of Little Greene paint for furniture?

I’ve just tried out a sample of Little Greene paint and I love the colour. I prefer it to a similar F&B colour that I tried, but I found the LG paint had a much more gluey consistency that seemed to show brush marks more and create a less good finish.

However, the sample pots are not the actual type of paint that I would use - the LG sample is Absolute Matt Emulsion, whereas I would use either Eggshell or Intelligent Satinwood. It’s not possible to get samples of those, so I’m wondering whether anyone has used them, and if so, what they’re like to paint with?

Thanks for any thoughts on this!

I have, and am really pleased with the results! Can’t see any brush marks at all, though I did sand very lightly between the two coats. Didn’t use primer or undercoat, just sanded a bit first.
The only other furniture paint I’ve used was B&Q own-brand and truely crap.

That’s great to hear! Which type of Little Greene paint did you use - Eggshell/Satinwood etc.?

I've never personally used LG but I'm currently redesigning our kitchen and the two places I've looked into (British Standard - britishstandardcupboards.co.uk/guides/how-to-paint-your-kitchen-cupboards - check out pages 5-6 if that's helpful- and an independant carpenter) have both said they think LG is best. Not sure which finish they're referring to though. Let us know how you get on!

That’s interesting - thank you!

My parents have just used LG intelligent satinwood to paint an old family cradle ready for my firstborn and they were happy with it. We've used LG in various finishes all over the house and also very pleased!

I've used LG on some of the cabinets in my kitchen. It is a fabulous dark colour and has chipped badly so now looks crap and I am going to have to re do it. The problem is that I'm not going to be able to retouch, I will have to sand back lightly and do the whole lot again. It's a difficult one though because obviously another eggshell could have gone the same way, it's a high maintenance area that takes a lot of bashing.

What colour is it? I've recently used Craig and Rose - lovely paint. Also used Fired Earth - less impressed . These were both on furniture. Need 3 coats for the FE against 2 for the C&R. But those LG tester posts as gorgeous - have used it on a wall and it's lovely paint.

Thank you for the replies! The colour I’ve tried out today is Acorn 87, which is pale green.

Does anybody know whether anywhere matches Little Greene?

autumneve · 21/11/2020 12:58

@roxyrocky I think Valspar from B&Q March any paint colour

I would highly recommend tikkurila paints. They can match any shade from other colour cards. We bought ours from Holman paints in Swindon (online) and used it to paint our unfinished kitchen cabinets. It’s a lovely finish and really hard wearing x
