Bed runners & bed spleads opinions

I want to recreate that luxury bedding feel you get in nice hotels. Can I have any opinions on bed runners & bed spreads please? Do they really add to your bedroom look, or do you find them a pain?
There are some lovely duvet covers on the market son what is the point in covering up a beautiful pattern with a runner even?
On the other hand there are some beautiful bed spreads out there too.
Also, to get that nice over hang with a duvet do you use a king size or queen size duvet instead of a double duvet?

Spleads has tickled me 🤣

I personally feel that more often than not a bedspread cheapens a bedroom.

Buying a bigger duvet than needed is probably not a bad idea though and it’ll hang nicely on the bed.

I hate runners and cushions on beds and they go in the bottom of the wardrobe for the duration of the stay if I find them in hotels and holiday lets. They get in the way and make the bed look cluttered.

I have king size duvets for the double bed and super king for the king size.

I've always done it since my mum suggested a double duvet for my single uni bed would be cosier. I like the overhang and it mostly stops DH stealing all the duvet.

I like a runner but find them a bit of a faff, and bedspreads (to me) are for when I'm trying to keep the dogs off my bedding :)

Thank you for your comments. You'very helped me to make up my mind - good quality & beautiful patterned duvet cover only, no bed spreads or runners. DH just kicks them off anyway & it's just another thing that has to be tidied!

I love bed spreads (not so keen on runners). But it depends on whether you are happy to spend a lot of doing arranging your bed. Personally I am—I have a lot of cushions, and a winter bedspread for over the duvet (velvet, and it always looks neater than just the duvet, but you have to spend a bit to get a good velvet).
In the summer I use a lovely light quilt hand embroidered in India for a summery feel (I go without a duvet).
But you can get a hotel feel without the bedspread—in medium weather or when I’m short on time I just do a plain white cotton duvet cover with a thin black edging, matching pillowcases plus two silk white pillowcases (good for your hair!) and some really fab sheets. I would only use really nice Egyptian cotton flat sheets (unsatinated) in white. And change them really regularly to keep the nice hotel feel—if you don’t want to wash them more than weekly, then put them in the tumble drier every couple of days to get them gorgeous again.

Also with the duvet—I find it feels totally different in bed when you have a lovely heavy goose duvet, would be the first thing I would do if you want a great bed feel!
