Grey or cream carpet

We are currently decorating our spare room. This will be our babies room, and we were going to paint the walls white (it's not a large room, so I was hoping it would make it look bigger), and have a pale pink blind and rug.

We are unsure whether to go for a grey or cream carpet? We will hopefully be putting the house up for the market once I am off maternity, so I am wanting to go for an appealing option!

Many thanks for any opinions!

We have greige. Sometimes it looks beige and sometimes grey depending on the natural light. It's a good neutral not as officey looking as grey but goes better with our stuff than beige would. Cream looks lovely but not for long!

Any parent buying a cream carpet in any room is either ridiculously optimistic or a masochist.

But I would never buy a cream carpet at any stage of life. Much better for the environment and your sanity to have something more forgiving that will take a little bit of collateral damage without needing endless cleaning and early replacement.

Hard flooring and a rug is much more practical and hygienic in a child's room.

I read a book once which said: buy everything from now on with an eye to maintenance. Such good advice for simplifying your life and reducing expenditure, stress and effort.

Still can’t get my head round those who want to buy carpets to hide dirt.

I have a cream carpet throughout my upstairs, I also have a carpet cleaner and clean it regularly. I would do the same if it was any other colour, I don’t want dirty carpets in the house or to buy carpets specifically so I can leave them dirty and folks can’t see.

As children are on the floor a lot playing, keeping it clean is really important.

Not dirt, bit's of dark fluff.

Grey and pale pink will look lovely.

I love grey carpets, they are bright, but don’t show dirt, and easy to match walls and accessories with.

Not a huge fan of grey carpets either ... but the heathered ones are ok. Although dulux beige and oatmeal type tones seem to go better with a wider range of wall and other colours

Although dull...

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say thank you for the advice. We have gone for a silvery grey, and hopefully will be getting it down soon. Looking forward to having a usable room again!

Many thanks again
