Does anyone have their bed in front of a window?

Just browsing Pinterest for bedroom decor ideas for our master bedroom which is long and quite narrow with a difficult chimney breast, making furniture placement combinations limited. I noticed quite a few pins with the bed in front of the window. I’d just never even considered doing it but the room would work much better that way round. Is it something people actually do or is it just a Pinterest thing?

If anyone is interested I’ve done it and it works really well! Current bed is quite a high divan with a solid headboard, it would work better with a low bed frame but that was on the list of things to change anyway. Layout wise it’s much better.

@nancybotwinbloom OMG I love your headboard! Where is it from??

nancybotwinbloom · 19/07/2020 20:35

No nothing really. Sun rises from that side so it's nice when I come up.

Sets the other side so it's dark when we go to bed.

It's a full bed from an independent shop in Liverpool.

Am sure it's called furniture 2 go.

They had others that were gorgeous but we wouldn't of got a bigger one up the stairs xx

We did in our old house as it was the only way it worked tbh. It did block the radiator which was annoying, but otherwise it was fine.

You can walk round our bed at the bottom which you can't see very well but my DH gets up walks round it comfortably without waking me up.

@nancybotwinbloom I'm in love😂

@nancybotwinbloom it's gorgeous..I'm in love😂

I was tempted to do this - it would improve the layout -but the radiator is under the window. I don't fancy waking up with a hot head. I'd try it out for summer but my bed is so heavy to move.

Yep, mine is under the window, it’s the only place it will fit. The view from the bedroom is the worse in the house and we only go in there to sleep so I don’t think it matters.

I thought about it when we moved in as our bedroom is long and narrow. But it would mean moving the heater in the bedroom and I just couldn't be arsed to be honest! We couldn't do it the other way around because of where the door is. There is only about a foot of space between the end of the bed and the wall, but it's OK. I also like being able to look out of the window when I'm sitting in bed.

Totally off topic, but talking about beds being the wrong way, every bedroom in our house has been wired up by someone who thinks that you should face the door. Which is just wrong. I'm not usually superstitious, but that is the one thing I will never do.

@Fatted - every bedroom in our house has been wired up by someone who thinks that you should face the door. Which is just wrong weird how everyone thinks differently Smile All our beds face the door. Sleeping with the door behind you is just no Grin

I’m like fatted especially when I was bed bound for about a week once it was great being able to look out the window as I live opposite the village green so I could see a bit of life.

Mine is similar in position to nancybotwinbloom opposite with room around all sides. I have a pine bedding chest at the bottom of the bed and a bamboo laundry basket under the window with just enough space to walk between. My bed is a 1880 black iron and brass knobs and I love it. It was second purchase on eBay. I missed the first one I wanted so I had a practice run buying something cheap first😁

It is great on hot nights as you can get the breeze from the window like others have said.

Mines between two windows in our room. I'd prefer it on the opposite wall, but the sound travels between our room and our ds's room so not conducive to a good nights sleep.
