Hello,

Please could you share as per title?
We have a quite dark hallway and it's in need of some TLC (not decorated since built in 2014, currently scuffed magnolia!). It's fairly long and our front door only has a little window (only one) so quite dark. I'm toying with the idea of a wallpaper with a little metallic in it for one (full) wall and paint for the others or just a nice warm pale paint but keep second guessing myself.

The stairs come off the hallway, then theres a windowless landing with more stairs and then a further smaller windowless landing so think I would need to paint all the way up.

If I wall paper I would either continue one wall per landing or just paint... does that make sense?

Please inspire me?

Mine's an old trad house, so can't post a pic. I wouldn't just paper one wall because in a long narrow space it could feel unbalanced. Personally, I would paint it all one neutral colour and use plenty of mirrors where appropriate to bounce light around. Also think about your lighting - I'd suggest sparlky open shades/fittings rather than solid ones.

Following with interest. We have black floor tiles which go through into the kitchen and will be a fortune to replace, but make it much worse. We have however replaced the front door with one which lets in more light through windows (and less light at the bottom and sides where it blew a gale!).

Hrm perhaps you're right about the wallpaper. Wondering whether to go for a bright white or like a very pale warmer brown pink or purple (you know what I mean, that sounds awful written down!)

You dont need to match to the other rooms in the house do you? As in one room is duck egg, one a light green, ds is white and blue... then the downstairs room is bright yellow with marvel wallpaper Grin something muted would be ok wouldn't it?

Disaster. Bought what i thought was a nice pale off white mocha/mauve but is actually too dark. Only did a little bit behind the front door. Waste of 15 quid(bought whilst I was doing our general shopping so I didn't make a special trip as obviously I won't do so made mistake of not getting tester pot because I am impatient) Sad

Could you buy a white to mix it with? Then you won’t have wasted it, it will be lighter & you’ll have twice as much paint?

Baxdream · 18/04/2020 20:07

Here's ours, it's in shadow white which is such a lovely colour!

Off topic, sorry for hijacking BlushBaxdream - is that clever closet that you have for the under stair storage? Do you recommend them?

Baxdream · 18/04/2020 20:31

It was indeed! Yes, worth every penny! Used to be such a wasted space 😊

Baxdream oooh i've been contemplating having ours done. We would only fit the three draw unit & i'd use for shoes. Sounds ridiculous but i was in two minds wondering whether i'd constantly find spiders in there or whether it'd get cold & smell foisty as our stairs are against an external wall. They look amazing!

Sushiroller · 19/04/2020 12:09

If you broadly like the tone
I'd just buy 2.5l flat matt white and lighten it up - mix it well!
I do this all the time - never had a disaster.
