Why do my orchids keep dying on me??

I have had two beautiful phaelonopsis orchids given to me as gifts recently - they arrived with beautiful flowers already open and several small buds waiting to bloom, and within two weeks, the buds are starting to shrivel and drop and the flowers dropping. They are away from windows in a dual aspect bright room, not near radiators and have been spritzed with plain water once per week. I had two of the same plants last year and killed them both quite quickly too - they were on a window sill so I've moved these ones but they're dying anyway. They're not sitting in water either just to add 😫

I had a one that was just a twig for about a year and a half, leaves were still green but looked dead! Moved it to a windowsill that gets sun on it, started flowering! Now has about 10 buds on and five flowers. Hardly ever water it

i soak and drain when i remember in warmish water....don't shock them with cold.

As pp say, mine is neglected on the bathroom windowsill. Had it years, looks like a dead twig with green leaves most of the year then it flowers beautifully.

I don't water mine but I wash\rinse the dust off the leaves now and again - probably monthly if I'm honest!

Mine seem to like the East facing windowsill that gets the early morning sun. Water a very little when I remember! The only plants I don't seem to manage to kill.

Buy some orchid spray food - really helps to bring them back to life!

I kill everything but my orhids keep blooming and blooming, including the ones in bathroom. Soak once per week, then drain, that's all they want.

I've been given one, it's dying and I've realised the root ball is just sitting on the surface of the pot. What should I do? Try and repot??

The roots are supposed to be like that, in their natural state they grow on trees, their roots exposed to the elements
