What would you put in this space?

Please can anybody advise?

There is a space between the staircase and the sofa.
Usually, we put spare cushions and the magazine rack there, but we are buying new furniture, and think the space could be used better.
If it was your room, what would you put in the space?

Depending on the room, maybe a structural tall lamp. Otherwise nothing. The gap is very small and by putting something in you will make it
appear cramped and draw attention to the smallness of the smacks which should otherwise not be noticed.
