What flooring do you have in your living room?

Do you have carpet or a wood floor? Etc

This is all quite theoretical for now, but if things go to plan I'll be buying the house I currently rent next year! And I'll have enough money to put in a nice kitchen and decorate my living room, the two rooms are joined together.

I don't know whether to have one flooring that covers both rooms, my parents have recently had an expensive oak effect floor put down with trim around the edges of the flooring and it looks great. There's covers the kitchen and open plan conservatory and it works well.

I'm wondering whether to have it cover my kitchen and living room too.

What're your thoughts and has anyone regretted removing carpet from their living room?

Pictures would be appreciated of your flooring choices Smile

We had stripped floorboards for years, but recently replaced that with a really good quality deep pile carpet. The difference has been amazing in terms of warmth and comfort- no more chilly ankles!

@ShinyDolphin do you know if that happens? My parents had a Karndean kitchen floor for 9 years and it was flawless when taken up again, they only had to remove it because they'd extended the room.

The plastic issue doesn't bother me in that it'd be a very long term used plastic (a minimum of 10 years) one use plastic is more of a concern for me

We have been working on our front room for months.. epic job!

We've sanded and varnished the original Edwardian floor boards which are in good nick (compared to much of the rest of our poor neglected house).. before and after shots attached!

We recently had solid wooden flooring put in - it's been a revelation after the disgusting carpet which was there before. I got it from a company called British Hardwoods: the delivery was a bit of a trial as it didn't turn up on the day I was told - but it does look lovely and with the underlay and a nice rug on top it isn't much colder than the previous carpet. I didn't install it myself - got a handyman to do it.

Before we moved house we had a lovely wooden floor laid throughout the whole downstairs area, we had a large shaggy rug in the living area so it never felt cold. I really loved the practicality of it, and how easy it was to keep clean, we had cream carpet before that. What on earth possessed me to choose that colour with 2 children and a dog I’ll never know, but we soon realised it was a bad decision Grin

That looks great @DavetheCat2001 really lovely! It'll be worth it when it's done GrinSmile

@Southmouth we have a light beige one in the living room currently and it's taken a serious beating over the past 6 years by one child and two dogs. It looks just about passable when freshly hoovered but really it needs ripping up!

We've just redone our flooring last month and finally decided on engineered wood floors downstairs in the kitchen and lounge. We got these lifestyleflooringuk.co.uk/125mm-brushed-and-lacquered-engineered-european-oak-wood-flooring-14-3mm and we're really happy with them. Karndean aren't bad in my opinion either.
