I am so unsure what we’ll go for in one new property. It’s quite dark and I do like white, but a colour may be a little warmer and help features stand out.

Would love to see some pics and hear about others houses and colours pls!

We painted ours a verrrrrry light grey colour with mustard accessories Smile

AfterSomeAdvice1234 · 22/11/2019 11:31

Ours is north to south so light at one end and dark at the other. Every shade of light grey/white looked blue in the dark room. So, we embraced the blue/grey and painted the whole lot in Le Chat Gris by Colour Courage, which is now like a soft but dark blue grey. Do you have the picture rail? Period houses can definitely take a strong colour of your ceiling and above the rail is white!

Waterandlemonjuice · 22/11/2019 11:34

What period is the property?

Bluesheep8 · 24/11/2019 13:12

1906 house. Lounge is a copy of f and b skimming stone, hall and landing are elephants breath, kitchen is dulux clear skies, 1 spare room is a copy of f and b dimity and the other is a copy of f and b slipper satin. Main bedroom is just pbw, bathroom is dulux polished pebble

Bluesheep8 · 24/11/2019 13:13

Oh, too much info, you only wanted lounge etc!

DomesticSloath · 24/11/2019 19:10

Period stone house, quite a dark sitting room. Joas White fits well, it's a good neutral.

ForeverBaffled · 26/11/2019 18:20

Dark dining room we painted with Crown Toasted almond and Aged white which is warm and cosy now. Living room in Crown flagon green and pure brilliant white 🙂

minipie · 27/11/2019 08:46

We have Squid Ink, a pretty dark greeny bluey grey. But there’s a lot of white and glass in the room to break it up. And we use it in the evening mostly.

North facing drawing room painted in F&B Borrowed Light with white woodwork, dark floorboards, gold-framed paintings, gold light fixtures and cream curtains. North & east facing family living room in Dulux Timeless with a grey Berber carpet, lots of wood and plants.

KristinaM · 27/11/2019 08:54

F&B Oval room blue

RestorationInsanity · 27/11/2019 16:12

Ours is going to be Little Greene Garden. Plenty of white woodwork, and a very large window to break it up. Still so far to go before we get there though!

CopperPottery · 01/12/2019 09:24

Another oval room blue

I've just bought a three hundred year old house. The living and dining room are going to be Farrow and Ball 'ball green'. It's a very subtle light green that becomes silver in candle light. As the room is always going to be fairly dark with small windows I thought that would be lovely as I love candles everywhere. I've matched it up with dark green Scandinavian curtains and dark red middle eastern rug over the flagstones and dark red accents around the room for warmer colour. I'm putting a woodburner in too. Haven't decided on the rest of the house yet.

Blossom4538 · 01/12/2019 12:58

Wow, these sound amazing, thank you. I’m in a very bright 80s property at the minute, lounge/diner white with dark wood floors.

New house is 1930’s, no picture rail - coving. Fireplaces, chimney breasts, leaded bay window etc.

Would love to see some photos of your lovely designs?!

In the process of decorating the living room in our Edwardian house..going for a deep red and neutral combo - Theatre Red by Little Greene and White Tie by F&B.

Victorian house, north facing living room but has large windows just painted it greeny/grey walls with white cotton picture rail & ceilings gave up trying to make it brighter, so embraced the gloom have used some pink & grey accents with throws/cushions/lamps am really pleased with it.
Hello Dave how’s the renovations coming along?

dontcallmelen · 04/12/2019 20:28

Do the dark rooms bother you? I love the house, but worried about going from such a bright house to a dark one!

@Blossom4538 I’m quite lucky it’s only really the front room/dining room that is dark & great in the summer as it’s the coolest room in the house, the rest of the house is quite bright, not sure how I would feel if the majority of rooms were dark though.

DavetheCat2001 · 09/12/2019 11:03

We've gone for a deep red on the fireplace wall, and White Tie on the others.

My sitting room is very similar to @DavetheCat2001, same shelving/layout, just smaller!

I have Stiffkey Blue on the walls with the shelves and also have White Tie on the others.

DavetheCat2001 · 09/12/2019 11:24

I liove stiffkey blue!

Have you got a picture of your room @MustardScreams ?

dontcallmelen · 09/12/2019 13:50

dontcallmelen · 09/12/2019 13:55

My front room & dining room, just waiting for curtains to be finished & put some pictures up then it’s done, the colour is grey-green linen from Valspar.
