Your thoughts on artificial flowers

For as long as I can remember I've thought that artificial flowers are a bit "tacky".

I think this is because when I was younger the only ones available looked dreadful.

There seem to be very realistic looking ones available now which look lovely.

Would you have them in your home?

I have a couple where I practice yoga. I am a plant killer so these will at least have a long happy life.

You know you can wash artificial flowers, even silk ones.

I have some fake plants and I just pop them in the shower and rinse them off.

Have you thought of dried arrangements instead? Such as these? Still (slightly) dust collectors, but very popular now (in Aus anyway)

I like them. I have some delicate burgundy IKEA ones in the lounge, some hydrangea heads in the bathroom and a bit of fake ivy with tea light holders hanging in the kitchen where the new cupboards looked too stark without anything.

I have a small fake lavender on my dressing table. It looks lovely and I don’t have to keep it alive.

Horrible.

On a side note about charity shops....do the staff that volunteer there always get first dabs on stuff that’s been donated and do they actually pay for it?[/quote]
Yes and yes. Or I did anyway.

You can get very lovely real looking artificial flowers, I have them all over my house. I can't keep real plants/flowers alive.

I’ve got 2 lots, I love real flowers but dh is allergic! They look pretty good, don’t need dusting much!
