Crazy to spend so little on sofas?

We've been looking for new sofas for months with very little success. Our budget is pretty limited (£1000-1200 max for 2 seater and a 3 seater) and we like the mid century style that's everywhere (John Lewis Barbican would be the ideal if budget wasn't an issue). So far though, every sofa we've tried in real-life hasn't been very comfortable despite looking great on the websites - seats too wide leaving my feet dangling; back too soft and slouchy, etc - which has put us off risking an online-only bargain purchase though I've seen several. Today I was in The Range looking for something else entirely and spotted grey, mid century sofas, both under £300, and tried them out - and they were really comfy. I've always heard mixed reviews of places like DFS and Sofology and that they're consumer credit operations rather than sofa retailers, so I'm under no illusions that slightly more expensive sofas will last forever. But I'm now wondering if something this price can possibly be worth the gamble - surely if they're that cheap they'll fall apart very quickly? Has anyone bought furniture from the Range and tell me their experience (positive or negative)?

That’s very encouraging princess, thanks!
I’m trying to work out what’s wrong with this sofa for it to cost so little. I have a feeling it might be the back view...

I have an excellent sofa from Asda and my mother always gets hers from sofa sofa I think oak ridge direct are part of that group of sofa manufacturers in Wales who also supply John Lewis and Laura Ashley etc. ( my mother spent weeks looking at sofas on the Internet and worked out they were all from the same few factories that sell direct )

My eBay cheap sofa lasted 7 years and was fine. I went to a place called matchstick interiors which sells end of line and ex manufacturer sofas. Got a 2 and three seater furniture village set for 500 instead of 1200 and they’re lovely

Have a look at SofaSofa.

Another vote for Next - I bought a second hand Next sofa in a charity shop furniture place for around £120 and it's lasted pretty well and is still comfy and in good condition. I love it.

@JustKeepIt Have you the name of the seller?

Another fan of sofasofa. They own Oakridge too, I think.

My sofasofa sofa cost about £300 8 years ago and still going strong. I'm having a new cover made for it. I can't find anything to compete.

My other sofa is a Klippan - cost £20. It's temporary but still in great nick.

There are some very odd sofas around. Grin

👍. Thank you.

As you see it luck of the draw.
Most sofas 20 years back are still going strong.the quality in general is not as good nowadays that’s a fact.
It’s because there is the belief that we get bored and don’t generally have a sofa for more than a couple of years.
My sofas were over 20 years one is from IKEA beautiful leather still use that it’s 26 years and the other which I have just changed was 18 years.
I have replaced with an expensive brand because I know the workmanship will probably out live me .I couldn’t do a change every couple of years.
My friend has some sofa sofa furniture and it’s good.I would never touch DFS and the likes years ago they might have been good but nowadays they really are not as good .
Depends on what you want disposable or one to last.

I go for expensive ever time except I always go for DFS sofas. Never had a problem with them and they last years. I’m getting a new one delivered tomorrow actually

The SofaSofa Jacob is a pretty close lookalike to the JL Barbican.

We have a £500 sofa from Ikea and it's the most comfortable one we've ever had. Had it 3 years and no problems with it.
