Delivery problems

Hi we ordered a sofa in early March in May (after the 5-6 week stated time of delivery) they contacted us about delivery. As it's a second home in Norfolk we have a friend who will take the delivery for us. She can be there 5/7 days but on two of those days in the afternoon only. They keep insisting the need to come on one of the mornings she cannot do and have offered no flexibility whatsoever. They are now telling us that we have to arrange our own delivery or pick it up ourselves. We are really upset. Just wondering if anyone has been through anything similar?

What information were you given about delivery when you ordered? It seems clear there is a set delivery programme which just doesn't fit with your arrangements, but you may only have any come back if you were told something different. Could you arrange delivery for a time when you will be at the property if your friend can't be there at the right time? Could you pay someone to take delivery perhaps?

I think the issue is we can do most days just not Tuesday am and the delivery company are only offering Tuesday am each week. Had they stated that they could only deliver within a narrow period and been up front I would not be questioning it. Its an expensive item and they have had our money since early March. I've looked into the legal position and it's not clear on this.

Okay - we had a similar issue with sofas. Our access is awkward, the delivery company needed to provide a smaller vehicle than a seven tonne truck after one driver and mate said the road outside was too dangerous for them to park on and walk up with the sofas. Funnily enough, our removal men had no issue when we moved in. We then needed notice to ensure someone was in to take delivery. Trying to get those things to coincide took weeks and in the end I tweeted the sofa company and complained about the lack of customer service.

I'd contact them via social media and ask what they suggest as the solution when they didn't tell you at the time of ordering they only deliver on a day you can't take delivery.

Either they can organise an alternative or you cancel and get your money back.
