Shutters - measure ourselves or get company to measure, plastic or wood?

We are replacing the blinds in 2 bedrooms with shutters. Both bedrooms have awkward shaped windows (imagine a square with a triangle stick on the end).
Has anyone any advice on whether it's worth getting made to measure shutters or can we do it ourselves.
The windows are single glazed by necessity and do get a lot of condensation often with small pools of water on the sill. Is wood ok or is plastic better?
All advice appreciated.
We are near Southampton.

I would get made to measure out for advice and overall assessment. I think even to just see what they say and then see if it’s something you can think you can do yourselves.

I know shutters can be tricky but with advice And a good company it maybe worth paying a little more. Shutter craft are good they have those in John Lewis but have many independent retailers. Trade secret is the independents should be lower anyway than JOhn Lewis but if not they should be able to get a discount from their rep to price match or beat the price. Luxaflex are a good brand too.

You could see if there is a company online that is really informative and that you can follow easily. I know there are loads that do them now. They can be an investment so I’d make sure your confident with the decision you make.

I love shutters and have installed them on many projects.
