To ask if off-the-shelf curtains look very different from bespoke ones?

Got some quotes in for curtains to be made for our bedroom. Wow, pricey!

I'm rethinking whether we buy off the shelf. I want them to look lovely - so am asking if the quality of bought curtains is really compromised - and where i should look for some good ones?

I’m a retired curtain maker and yes, there is a world of difference in quality and workmanship.
If you can afford it, bespoke curtains are fabulous. And they will last and last and last (which you may not want).
Have a look on my decozo.co.uk - it’s a mine of information and you may find someone local to you.

Agree with above but then I will always notice details about curtains, others may not.
If you want ready makes to look better:
Ensure you have sufficient fullness,
Get them altered to the exact length you need.
Avoid certain cheap headings

Loads of used bespoke curtains on eBay. Measure your windows and see what you can find. Use search words like "interlined" "bespoke" "made to measure" and "pinch pleat".

Yes completely! First answer nailed it. I’d go to a local curtain maker who can show you some work than online, I’ve had clients with too many disasters sorting them online. Quality of stitch hasn’t been good or measurements really off.

Also you get a huge choice of fabrics to choose from and still some good quality and reasonable prices, if you’d like some brands to check out let me know.

Interlined definitely better as mentioned, pinch pleat and cartridge pleat are my go-tos.
