Colour for enclosed staircase?

I live in a compact 2 bed terrace and fancy doing something with my hall/stairs/landing. I say "hall" however it's only a metre square (one doors leads off to lounge). Ditto the "landing" (3 doors lead off).

I have no bannisters so when you enter the front door the stairs are directly in front of you and completely walled in. It's currently almond white (including woodwork!) with a greige carpet and an oak-toned bannister.

I've looked for inspiration on Pinterest/google but no-one seems to understand the concept of an enclosed /walled-in staircase. All the photos include bannister/epic stairwells

I don't want to go as far as replacing the bannister/ stripping the stairs/ adding wainscoting. I'm not keen on framed pictures as the stairs feel claustrophobic as it is. I'm clumsy and I'd end up knocking into them all the time!

My current thoughts are a very pale grey/greige, white woodwork and either beaded glass lights at the top and bottom or lemon/acid yellow shades for contrast I've gone off mustard and grey but still like yellow!

It's probably classed as north facing but there's a slim pane above the front door which provides quite a bit of natural light.
I always leave the doors open upstairs to flood the landing with light which filters down the stairs. I also have a mirror at the top of the stairs to bounce light around.

I'm a bit new to this decorating lark and wondering if I'm missing a trick in terms of colour! I'd definitely prefer to keep the stairs light, I've been more daring in other rooms

Thanks! The light itself doesn't hang very far from the ceiling so it's awkward to balance on a ladder and squeeze the plastic ring. I'd happy snapping it but it's really rigid plastic, I can't even squeeze it to release in the way it's intended.

Update - the thing is off! I had to summon my Dad and a pair of special pliars and even he struggled. We were on the verge of dismantling the light fitting

Cheers! I had another look in Dunelm today and they had both sizes of Blenheim on display hurrah! Except they'd not untangled lots of the crystals

I'm focusing on redecorating/ rejigging my lounge over the next 2 weeks then I'll move on to the bedroom and hallway.

Now I'm stuck between the Pineapple and the Blenheim shades, I liked both! Hoping one or the other go into the Jan sale
