Colour for hall stairs and landing with no direct light of it's own?

My new houses hall stairs and landing with no windows of it's own. What colour will help stop it feeling so dark and drab? Not white and must come in a paint that can be scrubbed because i have two mud magnet spaniels and a 3yr old terror daughter who is like looney tunes taz prone to making a mess of walls.

I'd go bold. I'd get some wild wallpaper or a dusky colour you love in scrubbable paint.

Our decorator recommended the Light and Soace range from Dulux for window-less areas.

Sorry, that was meant to say Light and Space range,

Mud have you used them? I looked at them but was worried they wouldn't stand up to cleaning?

Mike I have been reading about that idea and how it's supposed to warm it up when there is low natural light but it worries me that it could just make it feel even darker.

I haven’t used them OP but our decorator swears by them and said we should use it for our stairway which is dark.

Agree with you though...not sure how well they would stand up to cleaning. The Dulux Easy Care range would probably tick that box.

Good luck!

We used pale yellow and it works well. Or hallway is dark and tiny, so yellow works well. We didn't bother with paper it was too much effort. The downstairs has no window and is very small with a narrow staircase. but the upstairs is bigger with a window, and it works really well.

Dulux do a wipeable paint which is good.

Same here but 3 children and no dogs! We have a skylight at the top and 3 floors, no windows.

We’ve recently used one of the Light + Space whites and a few months in I’m wishing I’d gone for something less white. I’m working out whether I can face repainting it.

For the no light bit could you get a new front door that allows some light in. We did that in a former house and it let in some much needed light. We were delighted with it.

Mine is like this - it's a big but dark space. We've embraced the dark and gone with navy blue. It's quite dramatic, but works really well l.
