Kitchen tiling help

We are tiling part of our kitchen and don't know where to end the tiles. Our counter top and cupboard are not in line, so should we end with the cupboard, with the counter or another option we haven't thought of?

Is the black the upstand in line with the worktop? I'd go level with the worktop - they're not out by much by the look of things.
