Master bedroom- aesthetics over function?

I'd love your opinions please!

Our master bedroom is yuck. Lime green walls, cherry red carpet (inherited!) and it also has two chimney breasts and a cut away for the door, so really alcove-y. We each have a pax wardrobe, a chest of drawers, and we have a super king bed (7' x 6'). I hate the layout as it currently is and I want to move it so it looks more attractive. Dh says no can't be arsed and insists that my new layout plan is not practical.

Please peruse my diagrams and tell me what you think! They aren't to scale! In drawing 2, the extra pax is a single door unit which is currently in ds's room and has baskets in instead of hanging, so will replace 1 of the chests of drawers.

Just thought I'd share this as I really appreciated all your feedback and help!
Bed in the alcove, wardrobes where the bed was! The picture doesn't really do it justice as it looks so much more spacious.
Thanks again all for your input Flowers

It looks lovely!
We are currently in the same quandry. We had our bed head against the wall opposite the window wall, but could hear every noise from our sons room, and he us, so we (I) moved the bed to between the windows, but am already fed up having to open and close the door every time I want to get to the other side of the bed. I want to build some storage to pillow height in the alcove next to the chimney breast, and put the bed in front of that, but dh thinks this is a waste of space and wants to put the bed in the alcove. Then we have no room for bedside tables. Apparently he doesn't need one (he does), and I def do.

The discussion (battle of wills) continues....

Show him this thread! My dh was exactly the same, couldn't see how it could be any better than it already was and wasn't worth the days of moving furniture to see if it worked. I'm so so glad I persevered and did it myself while he was at work because it looks like a different room now.

Try drawing a very detailed scale drawing on squared paper to fiddle about with it?

I will add, I originally wanted it in front of the alcove but it did look a bit stuck out when we tried it. We compensated by getting a very narrow bedside table which fits alongside the bed and I've got the wider one on my side. We also considered floating shelves at each side in place of bedside tables.

Thanks glitter. The paper was Dorma from dunelm and the pillowcases match.
