DH hates open curtains, what else could work?

We live in a new build with a lawn to the from then a pavement about 3 metres from the house.

In our living room, we've put up a few white voiles plus thick curtains. I feel that he voiles offer enough privacy while still letting light in. But DH will not sit in the room without shutting the curtains - its driving me mad, he completely refuses to open the curtains in the morning and then closes them the minute he comes in.

We need a solution that offers a little more privacy, but still lets me see the outside world and lets light in.

We've had a quote for day night blinds, but they are pricey and I haven't seen any in real life.

I'd consider white wooden Venetian blinds even though I don't like how they look, but DH says he'd probably close them too.

Is there any magical solution out there that I haven't found? I'm not convinced about shutters as I feel they might be too imposing.

We have white sugar blinds that are like voiles but more modern. I got mine from Hilary's online shop when on offer or web blinds. You can see out but not see anything if standing outside. I also have a night and day blind from b&q if you have standard size windows.

Lots of good solutions suggested here, but I am wondering if your dh will agree to a compromise - sounds like he likes sitting in the dark.

I hate having the curtains shut, I sleep with them open. Me and your dh are so not destined for love...

He's similarly reluctant to open the bedroom curtains which is causing damp issues

You have stolen my boyfriend!

No advice... its annoying.

Net curtains - definitely a no from me.
Closed curtains - I'm with your DH on this.

  1. Move house. Probably a bit drastic but it would solve the problem.
  2. Plant conifers/evergreen big shrubs infront of window.
  3. Do you have a room in the back of the house you could sit in?
